Greatest Jazz Starting Five

Wow shooting guard is hard for me to decide. Horny, Grif and Pistol. They had such different skill sets plus I really liked all of them. Probably have to go Pistol on this one.

Now on PF the easy choice would be AD, but I remember him as being a black hole and not a great defender. Ak isnt the offensive machine that AD was, but he is a great defender and facilitates the offense. So with all the other scores on the team, I will lean AK.

The rest of the team is pretty easy to pick. I mean who doesnt go with Big Jose. I mean there are probably still butt divots in the bench from Jose's days with the Jazz.

The starting 5 that I submitted is the leading 5.

I have said it before, and I will say it again. Stock and the Mailman would have won multiple championships if they would have had either AK or Memo during the 1990s. Especially Memo. He would have had wide open three's all day with all the attention that Malone got down low.

Still. Could you imagine Jordan trying to get his game winner off being defended by AK instead of BRuss? Holy moly.

P.S. Darrell Griffith is not getting enough love. He was a beast. Jeff Malone had good numbers but I dont think he meant as much to the franchise as The Golden Griff did.

Not to mention that Ricky Greene>Howard Eisley. COME ON SONS!

I can't believe Okur received more votes than Eaton, and that Kirilenko could even come close to 10% against AD. This just goes to show there's a whole generation of Jazz fans who didn't know basketball existed in Salt Lake City before 2007.

I honestly don't know who I'd pick out of Stockton or Williams. History's on Stockton's side, but really, if the NBA still didn't allow zone and Deron had Malone...? It's hard for me to say that Stockton is better than Williams if all factors are the same, even though Stockton was cold-blooded and had underrated ability.

So I'll just leave PG as a choice between the two. You can't go wrong.
Pistol
AK
Malone
Memo

Memo's defensive shortcomings aren't so glaring if he has a great defender next to him and his shooting becomes all the more valuable with Malone beasting inside. With Pistol and AK at the wings (not to mention Stock or Deron at the point, of course), there are three people more than able to initiate a set or finish a play. With so much headiness, scoring, shooting, and facilitating, it bodes very well for the best PF to ever play to have his way with the other team. With Malone and AK (and Deron [a very underrated defender] or Stock), I think the team plays a slightly above average form of defense AT WORST. That's my starting 5.

I was looking at it as who's the best center for the Jazz, not necessariy who would be the best center combined with the other 4 players to make the best team.
With that thinking I would still take Eaton because someone would have to guard Jabbar, Hakeem, Moses, Ewing and all the other great centers in the Greatest Starting Five League.

At center, Eaton gets my nod because with the offensive firepower from the other spots, you dont need a scorer. That and he clogged the lane and was a really good man defender. He was also very good at rebounding and getting the ball out to stockton to get out in transition. Okur can shoot and that is the only advantage he has over eaton.

I also love Grif and had a hard time picking pistol over him. But he is Pistol Pete.

You'd have to play that both ways though and allow hand-checking on the perimeter.

Why yes, I can imagine that.

Well I really can't see Jabbar, Moses or Ewing covering Okur at the 3 pt line. Eaton gave Hakeem fits but a lot of times Eaton was in the way on the offensive end.

HAHAHA. Oh man, that's actually the first thing I thought of as well.

But to be fair, AK should've been shown the bench for the rest of the game after the 1st quarter. He was ****ing awful that entire game.

I'm hoping that ESPN takes these all-time greatest starting units and somehow simulate an entire 82 game season plus playoffs.

That'd be interesting.
