The Real Problem with the Team and Starting Line-Up

It's Earl Watson. ****ing Earl Watson.

Look, Marvin sucks and Foye isn't much more than a 3pt shooter, but they suffer greatly from the fact that no one ever has to guard Watson. I really think we will see a boost in the starting lineup production across the board once Watson is out and Mo is back.

The problem with the starting lineup is that it contains three of our worst players that actually get minutes. Getting to the root of it, the problem with the starting lineup is that the person selecting it is a dumbass.

Mo may force defenses to guard him, but he's no point guard. Jazz offense will stall when it matters most down the stretch with him. We need a point guard. It's very simple. We can piss and moan all we want about Corbin but we won't win anything significant until we have a game-changing point guard on the roster. Or at the very least, someone like Darren Collison.

The point is, any 2/3 combo you pair with Watson is going to struggle. The starting unit does a lot of half-court sets because of post-ups (especially when Jefferson is playing), so having Watson really hurts when a team can set their defense and adjust for Earl.

I will give Watson credit for playing pretty good defense in the 1st quarter though.

Favors-Kanter-Carroll-Hayward-burks. This is the best line up so far this year. AJ and paul millsap can come off bench and play 10-14 minutes each.

I mean there was a point in the 3rd quarter that Watson had the ball at the top of the FT arch wide open, he dribbles about 10' into the paint, still wide open. Then bricks a layup. The way he shot the layup was like someone was forcing him to kill his own mother.

So why compound the problem by pairing him with the worst SG and worst SF on the team (that get minutes)?

I understand the players that are actually good and contribute to winning can't play for 48 minutes, but it'd sure as hell would be nice if they started - that'd allow them to either play more minutes or the same amount of minutes without getting fatigued from having all of their minutes at once.

The 2/3 combo we're starting with Watson is struggling because Foye and Marvin aren't good creators and neither is Watson. So you have your starting 1-3 that can't make plays for themselves or others. There's our recipe for disaster. Yes Burks isn't a PG, but at least he can create for himself and occasionally create for others. Why not bring Watson off the bench to play alongside Hayward who can create for himself and others?

Watson contributes absolutely nothing. It is nothing short of embarrassing and nerve-wracking to watch. He makes Raja Bell look like Ray Allen in comparison

And who decides which players sees playing time? I'll let you think about this one for awhile...I know it's a little tricky.

If Earl misses his next 3 shots, he'll be shooting under 30% (on wide open layups and jumpers...). Impressive.

Well, I see your point, but you could also look at it that Ty wants the bench to remain a strength of the team while keeping Hayward/Burks together at the 1/2 position.

Watson has a 7.64 PER, Tinsley has a 10.56. Tinsley is quite better.

PER means nothing, just use your goddamn eyes. Watson cannot shoot, cannot drive, is a sub-par passer, can't push in transition, can't draw fouls, can't screen, can't cut, can't defend anyone below the age of 34.

Someone please name one attribute he is above average in. Or even average for that matter
