What are the possible scenarios here now? It looks like a game of chicken between the Jazz and Fes's camp. Assuming neither side blinks before Friday (or that Fes doesn't sign an offer sheet with another team before Friday), what then happens? Isn't the QO good through October 1? If Fes signed an offer with another team say on Friday or Monday, would the Jazz still have the full 7 days to make a decision, even though that would take them past October 1?

If nothing happens before October 1, what happens then? Is Fes then an unrestricted FA? Do the Jazz have any say in the matter? Can they extend the QO (not sure they would at that point even if they could)?

Isn't it likely that if Fes becomes an UFA, the kind of dollar figures he thinks he's hearing now in offers would drop down, since the Jazz no longer have the right to match?

He remains a restricted free agent. A screwed restricted free agent without a team to play with. Jazz get to move on but still control Fes' fate. So, that won't happen.

Actually it is likely that as an UFA his offers will go up because there is less hassle trying to fight with/outbid a team who has said they will likely match any offer he gets. If the other teams believe what the Jazz said publicly about matching, why would they even bother to put an offer in. Waste of time and potential 7 days of wait time.

No; I don't remember. Because he was signed to two 10-day contracts--not one. And he played just 2 minutes over that span.

As I recall, it was for injury. 2006-07 was a rare year in which the regular rotation didn't have a major injury. But AK an dBoozer were out for a few games; not as many as usual :|. Oh--and it was also because Sloan didn't trust Araujo, even though he was one player who would actually play physical (and was able to slow down Duncan). Millsap was a rookie; no way he was gonna get major burn.

Um, the QO is still on the table and can match any offer that Fes receives. Why "pony up" to pay him when we may be able to sign him on the cheap.

He would then be a free agent at the end of the season and would have less trade value. Now if we give him in the neighborhood of 2.5 for 4 years and he puts up 8/10/1 (block) he becomes a real nice throw in an AK or other deal. Its also insurance in case Tomic decides he does not want to come over.

Exactly. If you are thinking only about the coming season/year, absolutely go as cheap for one-year as possible but if you are thinking longer-term with other implications/ramifications of control in trades and future playing time, you completely screw yourself with a one-year deal.

Boozer was out with a hairline fracture in his leg, so the Jazz wanted another "big" just in case. Amundson was brought in to be that big, not to immediately start playing. As for Araujo, the guy could not play. Yeah, he was physical, but getting fouls in a short period of time does not help the team. Millsap not getting major burn because he was a rookie? I guess playing 82 games that season doesn't qualify as getting burn, right?

Are you talking about Houston then? I am assuming it would be the same two million a year. Believe Jazz would match, but certainly luxury tax is a consideration.
