What's new

People have lost their damn minds

Soon you'll want to imprison kids who pull the legs off of bugs.

I haven't pulled the legs off a human yet, just grasshoppers and flies. However I am obviously disturbed and dangerous. Being relatively young still, I could snap at any time, hunt Kicky down and pull his arms off. Better lock me up now.

So we convict and imprison based upon the potential to commit future acts against people?

EDIT: You posted while I was writing. It's a cat. That's the bottom line. I have a cat. I love my cat. But it's just a cat. At a certain point the line you draw between certain animals is going to be arbitrary. Soon you'll want to imprison kids who pull the legs off of bugs.

Yea, cuz there's no other arbitrary laws that are just decided on. WATCH OUT! SLIPPERY SLOPE ERRRGGGHHH!!!

I don't have the data in front of me, but I thought that there have been numerous studies regarding serial killers and how many of them tortured animals as children. I am not equating the two, but I believe it is a crime to commit animal cruelty in most places, and I think a jail sentence is justified depending on the circumstances.

But what those studies don't address is the reverse statistic: how many people that torture animals become serial killers. And that's the relevant issue for determining whether or not this is actually a public safety issue.

I'm not saying torturing animals is a good thing, I'm saying that we've swung too far in one direction here.

Wow, I thought inhumane acts were punishable by prison times. Wanton destruction of animals seems to qualify.

"It's just a cat." "It's just a Jew." "It's just a Mormon." I guess the limit is humans then? It's only criminal if it's Homo sapiens sapiens? Going after transients with baseball bats is exponentially worse than doing it to transient dogs?

Color me unimpressed if you take that stand.

Quoted for truth. I LOVE killing Mormons.

You really believe there is no qualitative difference between the life of a person and the life of a cat in terms of how we should structure our penal system?

How far do you take this? Are you a Vegan? Do you equate Kentucky Fried Chicken to Hitler? If someone burns a cat to death with malice aforethought should they get the death penalty? Life in prison?

For the record, I would personally kill 1,000 cats to save the life of one human. And I love my cat.

What if that one human is Hitler?

After a hard day's work like that?

Only a Dagwood would do.

No. You torture, electrocture, drown, shoot, and flay humans, you get the death penalty. You do so to dogs and you get a couple of years.

Which is ludicrous. There should be no prison time for doing any of this to a damn dog.

Seriously, how is torturing a dog any different than raising a calf for veal? How is shooting a dog any different than clubbing a lamb in the head for lamb chops?

Animal rights people are whack and very selective about what constitutes animal cruelty.

Since most PETA members are vegetarians, they view it all as animal cruelty. A quick look at PETA's website shows they don't like to see sheep sheared for wool.

But yes, animal rights people are whack-os.
