Tomic Signs Contract

Why? I made a prediction long ago that he would never play in the NBA. He's not ready to and probably never will be.

I agree. Tomic hasn't been all that impressive when I've seen him play. He's far from a dominant player in Europe. Look at the guys that have amazing stats in the D-League and can't translate that into even a backup job in the NBA. I'd rate him on about the same level as Kosta.

Tomic blows, all this hype needs to disappear. I watched him in the worlds and I still don't know why everyone has their panties in a twist about him.

I third this sentiment. I was very high on this kid but he seemed mediocre at best this summer and imo is still at least two years away from being capable of contributing anything worthwhile in an NBA sense. If he was 18 or 19, I'd say, okay, cool. But he's not.

Lets not write him off yet. Bigs take long to develop. Besides that, the Jazz future is pretty bleak without him. AJ and Memo do not have the size to be centers on a serious contending team....hopefully no one thinks so.

Huh..if the Jazz "future" really depends on Tomic, then all I can say is good luck. Tomic should be a prospect to fill a bench spot, at best. WE need to do much better than that at the center.
As an aside, It is amazing that after a decade we still have SG and C by committee, while we dont have problems stockpiling power forwards and wings.

hmmmmm......

what did you find difficult to understand there? Stockpiling wings to the point of having logjam is not the same as finding a permanent solution at SG, as in getting a guy who can give you 30 mins night in and night out and play well on both ends of the floor. Most of the wings we had didnt either have the shooting ability or the quickness/strength needed on defense to guard 2s. On paper, Brewer and Korver were 2s who played for us. Neither of them was a legit solution at SG. And quite a few of them were SFs wrapped in a SG's body. That didnt stop us from stockpiling them anyways.

Dude, we're fine at SG, we have Wes Matt--. Oh. Nevermind.

Actually he had a very good last year and has gotten better every year. Think it is pretty ridiculous to count him out already. If he can put on some weight I think he could absolutely be a productive player with the Jazz. Look how long Nesterovic has been in the league and definitely think Tomic can be better. Considering it only took 3-4 million to bring over probably the two best big men in Europe think Tomic still has a shot to make it.

After talking with Thurl Bailey, I'm not worried about the future of the just the Jazz. I'm worried about the future of the NBA. He sounded like the lockout is a done deal.

How much would we have to pay Tomic to come over here? We do have a lot of potenial cap space coming up over the next coupld of years, but spending it all on this guy does not seem like a smart move.

The guy has some good offensive moves, and is quick. I'm still looking for his to use that length on defense.
We need a big to bother shots, and be a interior deterrent. If that part of his games developes we must bring him over.

he would be about our 7th best player now, maybe. Um, who cares really at this point about a totally unproven not huge upside looking softie euro?

Part of the problem is the buyout. The league limits the amount of money an NBA team can contribute. I think Raul basically earned nothing when you add in the cost of his buyout.

Tomic is no Elson, but I'd hesitate to pay him much. I don't think he's shown he has NBA skills. I'd rather re-sign Fesenko. At least Fes is big and runs into a few people when he gets a chance to play.
