Jazz Employee Reminds Fans They Are Lucky To Have A Team In Salt Lake City

Utah is lucky to have fans who've supported this team through average basketball and zero NBA championships. I get it's been an even split, considering for so long the Jazz was a good franchise and the envy of so many small market teams, but let's get real - outside '07's fluke run to the West Finals, Utah has been a relatively mediocre franchise as of late. In fact, you could make the argument going back to 2000.

2000: Second round loss to Portland
2001: First round loss to Dallas
2002: First round loss to Sacramento
2003: First round loss to Sacramento
2004: No playoffs
2005: No playoffs
2006: No playoffs
2007: Western Conference Finals loss to the Spurs
2008: Second round loss to the Lakers
2009: First round loss to the Lakers
2010: Second round loss to the Lakers
2011: No playoffs
2012: First round loss to the Spurs
2013: ??

You're looking at a thirteen year stretch where Utah either didn't make the playoffs or bowed out in the first round nine times. Not exactly impressive and what's worse is that we're not getting better. The franchise saw a slight improvement in '07 and '08 and they've regressed pretty much ever since. Jazz fans shouldn't be content to accept those types of seasons because we happen to have a NBA team in a small market. The people in Utah make the Miller family A LOT of money and even when the team struggles, as it has the last three and a half seasons, the fans still show up in fairly decent numbers. You don't get that in a lot of NBA cities that don't feel lucky to have bad franchises.

If that ******* Greg Miller ever relocates or sells the team, I'll do the unthinkable...I'll just become a Lakers fan.

Wow, I can't believe I just said that.

How does it compare with other teams? Especially with the other teams whose markets are roughly the size of SLC?

https://nbahoopsonline.com/generalinfo/Smallestmarkets.html

I think at one point we were far and away the most successful small market franchise in the NBA (maybe second to San Antonio - if you truly consider them small market considering they're a Texas team). However, the last 13 years - the last five? It becomes more muddled. Hell, Memphis is a more impressive franchise at the moment than Utah.

This mentality reflection should be a good answer whoever thought Matt could make a good coach for the Jazz. The only ex player that can benefit the players as a coach is Malone right now. At least he is someone young guys can look up to and learn from.

Fortunate? Are you kidding? The SLC metro area is perfect to be a one sport (yeah, MLS doesn't count) town and have supported the Jazz like mad since they've been in the area. What sort of dumbass ****ing ******** is that? Since 2001 the Jazz have been top 10 in attendance every ****ing year. And no lower than 13th in terms of stadium capacity. Not like the ****ing Kings who have been in the bottom of the pack in both areas the past 5 years.

Yeah all this ******* and ******* and ****ing and ****ing......... doesn't really help you here.

And another thing. Watched the game on Root? Heard Harpring saying "last two games the bench completely out scored the starters. That's a bad sign. Something must be done about it."? I mean DUH! Then you should start the bench who deserve the minutes. Can't you see he is no better than Corbin?

Haha yeah.... to tell you the truth, I don't think even the commentary guys know what to say about the situation.

Sure it does. For one it makes me feel better, which helps me a lot.

Second **** him and any other dumb **** who says "the Jazz are lucky to have a team." I'm not even from Salt Lake but the Jazz moved there and the community there has supported the team since damn near day one. That's not luck, that's part of the formula on how teams are financially successful. If I lived there and had season tickets (which in all probability I would) I'd be way more insulted.

Cool story bro.

Well I still feel lucky to have the Jazz.

I don't know where your from.... but I've lived in the Salt Lake area my whole life, and know what it's like to have no real team to root for that's even remotely close to an area where you can go see them..... except for the Jazz.

I get feeling lucky that the team moved there.

But the community has supported the Jazz for nearly 30 years now. It's not like they've been hanging on from a thread there with the Millers so valiantly doing everything they can to keep them there. The Jazz are consistently in the upper echelon in terms of attendance for the past decade, and probably the 90s as well. Again, part of the deal when you bring a team to the area is you ask the public to support them, primarily by attending the games, and the people in Salt Lake have done that. They fulfilled their part of the bargain. If the Jazz moved it would be out of pure greed and not because of any sort of lackluster support. Oh, support that also allowed the Millers to hold onto the team and allowed them to hold onto the team when all teams skyrocketed in value.

To me this is like telling the people in Denver should be lucky they have the Broncos. Ok, I guess they could pick up and move to LA and cite all sorts of financial incentives to do so, but it would be an insult to the people of this city (and to answer your previous question, Denver is where I reside) who have rabidly supported the Donks for the past 50 years.

Yeah I get what you're saying.

Although the Millers really did do whatever they could to win in the 2000's..... but because they messed up with Kirilenko's contract, could never go all the way again.

Even going into the luxury tax, when probably not wanting to.

Well that's cool that you're from Denver (that has a better basketball team than us by the way), and you still support the Jazz.

Harp's comment summarized the problem with this whole franchise.

Entitled, unaccountable, and completely non-competitive.

Where's the heart? Where's the fight? Where's the accountability?

It's just,"meh. At least we have a franchise here!!!"

It's Charlotte Bobcat talk to me. If that's the vision ownership has then don't complain when only 2-3k show up to watch your expensive garbage

The Jazz are averaging 18,739 this year.

9th best in the league.
