Corbin in a Nutshell....

This could probably go in the game thread but f' it I start about 4 threads a year.....

I hope I am not the only one who caught this. Late in the game, Thunder get called for a 24 second violation. Jazz huddle together like they're going to call a time out. But the refs stop play to review the last possession. Corbin gets this pissed look, Lowe gets this vacant stare and it's readily obvious that both of them are clueless as to what's going on. Finally Hornacek leans in as if to say it's cool the refs are just checking the game clock and a moment later one of the refs stops by obviously confiming just that. Turns out refs put one full second back on the game clock.

My question is what kind of ****ing coach does not instinctively ask the refs to check the game clock after a 24 second violation late in a relatively close game? I mean Jesus Jumped Up Christ that should be the first reaction of any high school coach worth his salt let alone an NBA Coach.

Point being this is Corbin in a nutshell. He is an NBA Head Coach for no other reason than that he happened to be in the right place at the right time - he is nothing but a reactive mediocrity with no instincts or feel for the job.

Good night and good luck with this guy.

That. Plus the fact that he's a good buddy of Greg.

It's not what you know in this business, it's "who" you know.

I've actually got a few friends that work with Greg. The sickening thing is they are all in belief that Ty is a awesome coach. And when you try to talk sense to them they always say bs like "You don't get to see the Ty we get to see" Unfortunately the one we get to see is awful.

Wow that's really alarming if that's true. We could be stuck with Ty for a looooong time to come.

I wish it wasn't. Now granted the guys I know work with him mostly as a head of the Auto group but they are still just a few offices away from him and talk to him several times a week

You listen here, you all are going to shut up and trust Greg on this decision. He's done so much for this organization and this state! He, just like Corbin, Foye, and Big Al all deserve our undivided affection.

Candrew is one of the more level-headed people around here. This post should mean something.

This is directed at media personalities and other employees of the Utah Jazz that lurk the site. I hope you're paying attention and not letting pride get the better of you.

For my part, I think it's fair to say that Corbin - as NAOS put it - "was dealt an odd hand" (Al Jefferson, a team whose best case scenario is clearly the youngest players on the team but a roster stocked with vets, 11 players that could make a case that they belong in a rotation, Al Jefferson), but I think he knows basketball. The problem as I see it is he is not a leader, he doesn't command or earn the respect of his players, and he's too slow and sometimes to cowardly to make the right decision. He's fine as an assistant. I'm sure he's a great guy. I wish him the best. But, come on. Even if he substantially improved, he wouldn't be the coach that a franchise like the Jazz needs if they're truly serious about being championship caliber.

The best thing you can say about Corbin after the dust has settled on this (regular) season is that the team completely stalled with a better roster and more preparation. I don't know how that doesn't draw an obvious and alarming conclusion.

It's a slippery slope now. If the Jazz ownership / FO is willing to settle mediocrity, sooner or later the fans are going to start turning away as they get fed up with being bounced out of the playoffs as the 8th seed year in year out. Fans are human too, and there's only so much patience to go around.

I'm not sure you know how the 'slippery slope' analogy/descriptor works, but I don't disagree with what you just described. I'm not sure I agree, but I don't disagree.

What I'm trying to say is, they can't take for granted that fans are always going to support the Jazz "no matter what". Getting bounced out of the playoffs year in year out without a solid / clear plan going forward is going to turn fans away at a certain point.

It will be interesting to see what the FO do this offseason. But if we failed to make the playoffs series competitive, and the same guys are brought back (Ty Corbin, Big Al, Millsap, Mo), I think they'll start to see a drop off in season ticket renewal for next year.

I think we should have 10 more threads speculating on the meanings of facial expressions. Good work finding this gem.

If Corbin coaches us to a 50+ win season next year, I wonder how we on JazzFanz would respond. Honestly, If Corbin led us to a record of 72-10, I still think there would be people on JazzFanz calling for his job. The corbin hate mentality has infected just about everyone on jazzfanz. I myself am a convert to Corbin Hate

We hate Corbin because of his coaching, not because of who he is as a person. And he would not go 72-10 unless he had Magic, Bird, Kobe, Lebron, and Michael playing for him.

I am a convert too. Used to think he was Jerry incarnate. I would like to give him another year though.
