As for Valanciunas, the promising Raptors big man who's been averaging a 15-7 since mid-March, here's a true story: When Sam Presti was quietly shopping James Harden last October, he called Toronto to feel out a Jonas package. And got rebuffed. Quickly. Our pal Chris Broussard told me this one and nearly made my eyeballs fly out of my head. But I got it confirmed — it's true.

The question is - would you trade Favors or Kanter for James Harden?

It's a tough question to answer. I probably would trade one of them, but who? Favors is a great defensive presence whose offense is coming along nicely. Kanter has shown he has the potential to be a beast offensively.

I dunno it's a tough one...

Some of the offers I've heard pitched by Presti for Harden have made my jaw drop. I would trade Favors now, then, and for many coming years. After the dust settled, OKC got the best return of the things rumored.

Yep I agree. In Kanter you have too many offensive weapons to pass up on. You can always try to find a defensive big to go with him - ala Chandler/Ibaka type.

Offensively, a Kanter & Harden tandem would be hard to stop in a couple of years time.

Until the Rockets are looking to trade Harden, the specific question is a moot point. A better question would be who would want to get in return for Favors if the Jazz were to trade him. And I really hope they don't.

James Harden could potentially finish 5th in MVP voting this year. It's a tough decision. But it's hard to imagine we could get anyone better than that.

There is a reason why the Raptors are called Craptors.
Hindsight.
Raptors believe they have a franchise big in Valanciunas. Centers are >>>>>>>>> harder to find than guards. And obviously, few foresaw that Harden would become a superstar. He was a very good guard last season and took it up another few levels.

My gott, that is an easy decision. Trade either one in a heartbeat. Throw in Hayward or Burks. Come on, Harden is a top wing, 5th in MVP. Those are the kind of guys you can build a championship team around. Its a no brainer if you are not a homer for your own (unproven) guys.

If we traded Favors and Burks for Harden and signed Omer Asik... Or lets say if we had Houston's GM Morey instead of Lindsey/KOC...

McCollum - Beno Udrih - Tinsley
Harden - Caldwell Pope - Belinelli
Hayward - Webster - Carroll
Kanter - Carl Landry - Evans
Omer Asik - Cole Aldrich - Mammadou Jaiteh

This would have been a top 4 team in the West. A hell of a team!
Instead, we had Mo, Jefferson, MaWill and Millsap that almost made 40 Millions/year. What a joke!

And we'll make a **** load of money selling Salt Lake tours to Turkish tourists...

I dont understand all the hate for Favors. He will easily be a top 5 defender getting 15 points a game. Harden is great and would love him here, but I definitely would keep Favors over Kanter. I can see Favors getting 15 points 10 rebounds and 3 blocks, and keeping the paint safe from easy layups. Kanter could be a great offensive player, but Favors does a lot mor that wins games.

Defenders like Favors are extremely rare. Why do you guys think the thunder paid Ibaka and ended contract talks and traded Harden. Ibaka's and Chandlers don't grow on trees. I don't know why everyone thinks Kanter is a better player

Thats why you are smart and kkk is just....KKK

I voted Kanter, because who are you going to get to replace the defensive production? And don't tell me those guys are a dime a dozen. How long have the Jazz been clamoring for a defensive anchor? Since Mark Eaton retired. And dont even begin to tell me AK was good defensively. He was, but he was not a defensive anchor like KG, Tim Duncan, or our last big D Anchor Mark Eaton. AK was a stellar help defender. There is one young defensive anchor in the league right now that is on par with Favors defensively, and that is Ibaka. Noah is already established, and going to command a ton of money, Chandler ain't coming to Utah on his next contract when he is like 36, and Tim Duncan made a deal with the devil to have a resurgent career. KG is a zombie. Those are the guys that Favors compares to in the league. Do you think that we will just be able to sign one of those guys? I don't. But if you have a guy like Harden to replace Kanter's offensive production, you suddenly don't need as polished of a scorer from the low post. However, why didn't we trade some draft picks, Alec Burks, Paul Millsap, Al Jefferson, The Jazz Dancers, the kitchen sink, and anything other than Kanter or Favors or Hayward (everyone in Utah love Hayseed) for Harden? I think that is the real question.

??? Because they already have 2 extremely athletic scoring wings, who gets to the FT on a regular basis in Westbrook & Kevin Durant????

Please don't tell me you didn't get the memo on this... please...

That's the point though, they were always going to keep Ibaka, and maybe not one of the other three. Ibaka is a rare breed of defender. Like 2-3 in a generation defender. Favors is also probably going to be that kind of guy. The point is when you get someone like that, you just don't trade them away unless it's for a sure fire hall of famer. 5th in mvp voting is not a sure fire hall of famer yet.

So I take it you're the only person on this board who voted "No Way"?

Yes.. you're the only smart one on this board alright. We're all just trying to catch up to you, your highness.

Bwhaha. I voted Kanter, Dumbass who thinks defensive bigs grow on trees.

Edit- Defensive bigs who score 15+ points a game grow on trees. I think we were KKK'd

And yet you somehow missed the memo that Chandler Ibaka typs are hard to find in today's nba where everyone wants to play offense and no defense.
