Actually in the case above, that might be exactly the situation. If the victim agreed to it, but is underage, it is still rape.

1) If you are below the age of consent, you can not agree, legally.
2) In Utah, if you are 17 (as this girl was), you can consent with anyone up to ten years older than you
3) There is always a power imbalance in a teacher-student or coach-athlete relationship, which means intimate contact is pretty much always a bad idea.

There was a football player just in the news, got exonerated after spending many years in jail for rape. Turns out the victim wanted to get back together with him and share the cash she got from the school in the settlement.

Just because you want to get back together with a guy doesn't mean he didn't rape you.
 
I suppose, but my point is that the case demonstrates that some people might be motivated by money to win a settlement from a school for a rape that did not really happen.

I never understood the logic of ruining someone's life for having consensual sex with a 17 year old.
