Following potential 2013 draftees

I think the rule is to always maximize each pick rather than planning around a combination of players at 2 different picks. At #14, if McCollum, Austin and Adetokunbo are there, you take the one you think the most highly of regardless of who might or might not be there are #21 (e.g., Schroeder, Green, etc.). For example, in 2010 Cleveland could have thought--"Hey, we could get an 'elite' wing and still get an 'elite' PG with our first-round picks if we took Derrick Williams and Brandon Knight at #1 and #4 instead of Kyrie Irving at #1 and whatever is available at #4..." Obviously, that would have been a royal mistake.

So normally you make every pick like it's your only pick, and maximize its value.

Just a friendly reminder from Captain Obvious.

Karasev, Green or Goodwin might be there at #21.

... and that was my intended question really - which of those would you pick?

Karasev to me seems like a double up of who we already have in Hayward - do we need another "soft" SF?

Green can come in our 2nd unit and give us that scoring punch. He can handle the ball as well, so he can double up as our 2nd/3rd PG.

Goodwin... he's a bit "meh" at this point. Similarly with Saric...

Goodwin is the risk/reward guy in the group. Many scouts believe he's one of those guys that makes a better pro than college player.. so he may not be there.

Liked what I saw of Karasev but seemed to have a very limited ceiling. . SARIC I have no opinion of..

I actually thought Cleveland should have gone kanter and knight.

the Jazz should do the age old smoke screen with McCollum and leak info that doctors found a problem with his foot that was broken. I am sure there is a way to leak that info with out it being traced back to utah. stuff like this happens every year

Yea, the Jazz seem like the kind of organization to do that.

I don't like Saric.

I don't know, I think I'd snatch up with the 21st pick. He's not flashy, but hell I think he's ready to step in and be a good pro. I think the teams that try to get superstars with picks that low are the teams that screw up. I say reach for the stars with 14 and get the guy that you know will be reliable with the 21st pick. Saric will be a good roll player.

He wasn't even ready to step into the Adriatic League and be a good pro there. He isn't close to NBA ready. He is a project.

Maybe I'm jumping the gun on not liking Saric, but I would sure hope that a guy we're drafting didn't just come off a season where he shot 39%(2)/30%(3)/50%(FT) (in the ADRIATIC LEAGUE!) and could guard a position on the floor.

For reference, the Adriatic League is the league Tomic was in when we drafted him. He dominated that League and then got signed to Real Madrid. It is a middling Euro league.

The 50% ft shooting does bother me a lot but as far as the other shooting stats go, he does have some shooting skills and he's young with some floor skills as I've read about him. I think he has some upside, and think he will improve as he gets older and gets used to the speed of the game. Didn't Hayward shoot under 30% from three his last year at Butler, and I don't think he's shot under 40% from three at the nba level. My gut tells me he will be better then the guys that will probably be there at pick 21.

Name me one player who shoots 50% from the FT line who is a good shooter.

1 thing remains extremely constant across all levels of basketball, the FT line is 15 feet away from the goal and no one guards you while you shoot them.
