David Locke made an interesting observation today on tip off. He said that ususally, a the personality of a team is a reflection of the biggest personality in the locker room. He made a point that the Knicks for example have Melo and J.R. Smith, but that they also have Jason Kidd and so it works because he has the biggest personality on the team. Locke also said that Big AL was the biggest personality on the team this year and that with the exception of Millsap, locker room cleanout was a Big Al best in the way all the players were responding to questions.

I think Locke has some good points here. I agree when he says that we have to stay away from guys like MAyo and J.R. Smith because there really is not anyone in the locker room that can match their personalities, especially if you take Al off the team. If we had D-will i think we could sign those guys, but without someone like D-Will, I think it would be a bad idea. So, ultimately, my question for ya'll is do you think Gordon Hayward has the ability to be the biggest personality on a contending team as he matures and gets better?

No he cannot be the biggest personality. He is not as loud, outgoing or attention grabbing as others (see Kanter). But I think he could be the leader of this team. He will just be the quiet leader. Not the in your face kind.

Edit: Not even an honorable mention? Sweet.

I agree with this. Biggest loudest personality?.... NO! Team leader? Definitely YES!!

Was Stockton loud?

Orangello makes a good point. You don't have to be loud or in your face to be the biggest personality on a team. Just look at the Jason Kidd example on the Knicks. Kidd is a strong presence that is felt in the locker room. It is like putting Rodman on the Bulls. It worked well because Michael Jordan was in that locker room.

Possibly, I see Hayward out there talking to people about things and communicating while the play is dead. Millsap, on the other hand, who is truly a quiet type, looks like he barely says anything.

I think Hayward is more of a secondary leader though, I think someone else will need to help him out. Maybe Kanter will grow into being more vocal as the years go on. He definitely has an outgoing personality, so he has the potential of turning that into being a vocal leader.

Like others have said: hayward can possibly be the leader of the team, but as far as biggest personality, he has no chance at claiming that crown as long as enes kanter is on the team.

Enes Kanter has by far the biggest personality on the team.... his personality is too big yo!

Anyone who lives in the slc area should go to the free jazz scrimmage in the summer just to see the comedic genious of enes kanter.

He had me laughing my butt off last year.

I see a difference between biggest personality and leader.

Yeah, but you have to have personality to be a leader, in most cases. So big personalities have the potential to become leaders.

I agree but you do not have to be the biggest personality. Hayward will never be a bigger personality than Enes. Just won't. But Hayward can be this teams leader.

Voted yes because I agree with the others. Not the "biggest" personality as in being the loudest, most attention-getting. But leader? Absolutely. He's from the John Stockton mold. John never was the biggest personality, but most definitely a leader even by sheer example.

What the way I should have worded it is Can Hayward have the biggest presence in the Locker room?

He can be the biggest (or one of the biggest) leader(s). It doesn't matter how loud or vocal he is. As long as he leads on the court and in the locker room.
Can he do it? Yes. Will he? Remains to be seen...but I think he can.

I think if the FO told him they expected that of him, he would.
