It does not sounds like this guy will make it, very sad story.

That being said I think the teenager should be punished, but I dont think trying him as an adult for manslaughter charges are positive for him or our society.

In cases of head trauma, it's often the swelling that causes more injury than the initial trauma.
I think the league charter needs to be examined. This appears to be a "one-off" league. Not saying that anyone could have prevented this violence; it's entirely the player's fault, but you would never have the trashing of a field like that in an AYSO game. The school district SHOULD revoke their permit immediately.

Interesting that there has been no commentary from any of you on the actual league or where they play. It's not a national organization but called, "La Liga Continental." Have any of you that live in Salt Lake ever heard of it?

They play in the soccer field at Eisenhower Junior High, right? I drive by every Sunday 'cause I live in that area and always see them playing. Sometimes I stop to watch. Very sad...

Don't know. Is it a big league? Do they have divisions for girls and boys of all ages, or is it a league just for "hard-core" teenage latinos?

And that's it right there. If we put this kid who lost his temper, like a kid, in the adult system we are essentially guaranteeing ourselves that upon his release he'll be useless as a productive member of society and will almost certainly turn to crime and do even more harm to society. Forgetting about the kid for a minute, that's not a good deal for the rest of us.

Let this kid deal with this through the juvenile system. It might be light on destructive vengeance according to some of your tastes, but it provides for the possibility that this kid won't turn into an adult who's only contribution to society is more crime and violence.

They should really have fist control. To make sure everyone knows how to control their hands so they don't punch and kill anybody. In all seriousness I hope this little punk rots in jail for the rest of his life. I bet this isnt the first or last time he has done something like this.

Hes already a lost hope IMO. If he would do this is in a soccer game imagine what he already does on the street.

He punched a guy. That's what he did. I guess every 17 year old male who ever punches anyone should be summarily executed because they are clearly a lost cause?

Exactly! I'm very much against trying this kid as an adult. However, my mind could change if there is previous history of assaults, weapon or drug charges, etc. If this is an isolated incident, then it needs to be treated as such.

"Portillo's oldest daughter says it wasn't the first time a soccer player assaulted her father. Johana Portillo says the referee has had ribs and legs broken by players angry with his calls."

What the hell ? Doesn't this seem very unusual?

Not if you follow soccer.
