Following potential 2013 draftees

I actually like most of the guys projected between the Jazz's picks. If the Jazz got Olynyk and Schroeder I would actually be rather pleased.

For sure.

There are a handful of guys I like around our picks.

Its true that its a terrible draft if you're drafting top 10, but I think the draft is average to above average where we are picking.

Is Olynyk going to be a Tyler Hansborough type of player... not flashy at all but a pretty solid role player? I think I would be fine with him as a pick. As far as the PGs go, I know absolutely nothing about any of them so all I can say is I hope we get the right guy

I would compare more to Tiago Splitter with a better jumper.

Olynyk excites me for his potential as a stretch big and should also be big enough to guard both positions there. I understand how hard it can be for a coach to let a big shoot 3s so maybe that won't translate but the benefits of how you can create space for your offense is almost a trump card. That Olynyk seems to be a jack-of-all-OTHER-trades is nice. If you can turn that body with his minimal weaknesses into a floor-spreader, you can get some of the primary benefits of small ball while also playing big. Again, there's a real chance the shooting doesn't translate (at least from a role-assignment stance via coaching staff), but even if it doesn't, I think he could be a nice player.

Tyler Hansbrough was simply a man among boys in the NCAA and is not a very good pro. He's fine as a backup. That's hindsight, but that was the concern with him among scouts years before he was even drafted.

Oh wow.

You know I'm usually 100% against the tall white guy pick, but there's two in this draft I really wouldn't mind, Olynyk and Withey... though Withey would be with the 21st pick of course.

I think the trick is this draft is going to be playing it cool and getting the value picks.

Good PGs are drafted all the time in the 20s... Rondo, Nelson, Tony Parker, Vasquez, Jarret Jack, Nate Robinson, Lowry, George Hill, Maynor, even Reggie Jackson and Norris Cole if you want to generous. Bledsoe and Teague were 18 and 19 also. It happens alot!

Edit: What's with the no spaces between paragraphs? is it just this computer I'm on?

I'm going to also add that having a pretty much complete offensive skillset would make it hard to have opposing defenses keep, say, a SF on him as he could possibly take them into the post. That's saying nothing of the potential mismatch of whoever the big would then be guarding if another team were forced to do that. Bear in mind that despite Memo being one of the worse defensive bigs I've ever seen in my life, his ability to shoot and lubricate the offense was such a boon that the Jazz could justify losing the most important single-factor in playing good defense.

All that said, the Jazz had better have a really good idea that Olynyk will translate and that they'll get a good PG later in the draft if they're going to burn their best chance at one by selecting a player that plays the position of least need.

Olynyk is an amazingly productive basketball player. If he measures out well, I see no reason his offensive game won't translate to the NBA.

I just don't see Schroeder being there at 21. That would make drafting Olynyk a tough call because I'm all but positive he won't be there at 21.

I don't think Schroeder will be there either, I don't think he'll slide past Atlanta. I would definitely take a point guard at 14 (Schroeder > MCW > Larkin), and then roll the dice with a big like Adams or Dieng.

I am beginning to come around on olynyk. I think he could be a legit third big for a while for us. Hopefully drafting him would stop us from signing two more vets to start in front of favors and kanter. Honestly, looking at the draft pick left, what else are we going to get outside of winning the lotto?

Dieng will likely be gone before we pick at 14. Seems like Schroeder would be a gamble at 21, let alone 14.
