I know its a few years off but do you think D-Will will resign with the Jazz?
Ferg from 1320 KFAN is always saying on the live blog that Deron is gone when his contract is up.
I know Ferg has no inside connections and is just going off how he feels but a lot of fans on the blog feel the same way.
I don't see him leaving if the Jazz can offer him the most money.
what does everyone think?

Will DWill stay? No. I already told you what my friend told me. Why do you think he only signed a three year deal? ;)

Not if we continue to stay the course.

If he is as big about winning as he acts, I agree with you. If is just about money.. who knows.
I really hope KOC can get something for this 9th pick to just show Deron that they are trying. If we draft Aldrich or Babbit can you imagine Deron's reaction. I can already hear is tone of annoyance and see him rolling his eyes.

Is Deron really going to be a top three elite FA in three years though? Like a Durant, Howard, etc, that will be able to go anywhere he wants to and be the top dog that can guarantee a title? Deron is great, be he's not a Lebron, Kobe, etc type player is he?

What if DWill wants those players? Do you know what player he wants them to draft at #9?

Yep, Deron surely has the EXACT same opinion as you on each draft prospect...he couldn't possibly disagree with you, could he? Pretty damn presumptive statement...

sorry I didn't mean for it to sound like I knew what Deron would think. I just used them as examples because they aren't going to change the team that much. I imagine Deron whining if we don't trade up or we don't get a big name for him to play along with. I just meant if we just lose Boozer and pick #9 and do nothing else this summer I doubt he'll be happy.

It depends on what the roster looks like in the next few years. Our roster is in serious need of upgrades. Memo's future is uncertain (and lets face it, even if he hadn't been injured, his career was on the downside anyway), AK47 is on the decline, and Boozer is going to leave. We're basically going to miss the 3 parts of our core big 4.

We need a good draft this year. I don't think a player like Babbitt will get Deron too excited to stay.

In addition to having a few good drafts in the next few years, we're probably going to need to sign a fairly significant FA in the next 2-3 years.

We cannot hope to improve internally. This team desperately needs an infusion of new blood. Boom Bitches, Krispy Kreme, Millsap, CJ, Price, and Matthews are about as good as they'll probably ever get. The way CJ played in the playoffs was a good sign. However, I'm not sure if we can expect him to play significantly better than what we saw in the playoffs this year.

I'm glad that I'm not KOC.

And to be honest, I can't blame Deron. He understands that the NBA career isn't eternal. His time is now. This franchise needs to prove to Deron that they can put together an elite group. Otherwise, Deron should leave and find a franchise that will do that for him.

You don't have to be Lebron or Kobe to be desired. No player can really go "anywhere he wants" if for no other reason other than that, under CBA rules, many teams just can't pay a top flight free agent. No one player can "guarantee a title," not even Lebron. I don't think Deron even wants to be "the man" on a team, in the sense that he wants to be the big scorer, or have his teammates just clear out so he can operate in isolation. He gets more satisfaction out of a good team effort and being a facilitator. He just wants talented teammates who will give an all out effort. With guys like the Paperboy and Matthews on the team, I'm sure Williams would prefer to stay with the Jazz, but they need a little more than that. Williams has repeatedly said he likes Utah as a place for him and his family to live. In the past he has also demonstrated a good deal of loyalty as with, for example, his college, where he has set up scholarships, helps recruit players, and visits every summer to see his old coach and play with the college team, etc.

Pretty similar to how it looked this year as well as how it looked three years ago.

Our roster is in serious need of upgrades.

We have internal upgrades.

AK47 is on the decline

Yeah, but we'll be able to re-sign him for a smaller price. What a steal.

Boozer is going to leave

Hey, they tried but at the end of the day nothing worked out.

We're basically going to miss the 3 parts of our core big 4.

Yeah, but there's still a lot of exciting basketball to be played.

I don't think a player like Babbitt will get Deron too excited to stay.

If it improves the team we'll take a look at anyone.

In addition to having a few good drafts in the next few years, we're probably going to need to sign a fairly significant FA in the next 2-3 years.

We landed dynamite with Calbert Cheaney because the new rules on zone defense made players like Calbet Cheaney with a good mid-range game a premium commodity. There's no reason to think we can't do it again.

We cannot hope to improve internally.

Why not? We're young! We're still gaining experience!

This team desperately needs an infusion of new blood.

We landed the #9 pick!

Boom Bitches, Krispy Kreme, Millsap, CJ, Price, and Matthews are about as good as they'll probably ever get.

They've got nowhere to go but up!

The way CJ played in the playoffs was a good sign. However, I'm not sure if we can expect him to play significantly better than what we saw in the playoffs this year.

We matched on CJ and wouldn't have done so if we didn't feel he could raise the level of his game to extraordinary new heights!

I'm glad that I'm not KOC.

Only KOC is KOC

This franchise needs to prove to Deron that they can put together an elite group.

Hey, we paid the big bucks to keep the team together and risked paying the luxury tax. They've proved everything to everyone.

Otherwise, Deron should leave and find a franchise that will do that for him.

Deron has found a franchise that not only would do it for him but is doing it for him... and for the fans.

Infection, I have no doubt that CJ and the rest of role players can only improve. How much however, remains to be seen. From what I've observed, Kosta, Fess, etc don't have very high ceiligns at all.

AK47 is on the decline. We may be able to resign him for a lot cheaper, yes. But we still are lacking a number of pieces. It isn't going to get any easier with OKC improving and Portland. You brought up the point about youth. OKC is much younger than us and completely outplayed us in the playoffs. They were at least competitive against the Lakers nearly forcing a game 7. We were easily swept. So not only are they better than us right now, there's no reason to believe that they can't be just as optimistic (or more) about the future as we are.

AS far as a lot of Basketball is going to be played by Memo, I'm not so sure. You're not going to find too many 30+ year olds that come back from that injury.

Furthermore, paying big bucks and paying the LT is completely different than putting together an elite group of players to win a championship.

The Jazz can do a lot to charge the fan base this year with a good draft. Drafting someone like Bobbitt probably doesn't qualify as a good offseason (if that's indeed all they do).

If there's a lockout, that doesn't count as a year off his contract right? (I know, dumb question but just double checking). Like others said, impossible to make that call now on what'll happen when his contract is up. Too much can change between now and then...it'll take not only us being able to fill in the holes we have but it takes some luck also. A lot of teams in recent years have made moves to try to climb the ladder, but still, only once (Dallas) did a team other than the Spurs and Lakers win the West in this decade.

I bet Sloan wants to win a championship before he kicks, too. But I've never seen him complain about the degree of talent on the team. He always just says that his job is to do the best he can with whatever he has. I really couldn't imagine him going to a different team, even one like, say, LA where he would have a much better chance to win, though. Not even if he was offered triple his current salary. It just aint in that farmboy. He's way too appreciative and loyal for that.

None of Durant, Howard, and Lebron have won a title.

And absolutely, are you crazy? Deron is the best PG in the NBA by a pretty hefty margin. He's gone if the franchise's priorities continue to be extending Memo, giving Harpring too many years, dumping rotation players, and letting Boozer walk (which they will). The Jazz really need to step it up if they want to keep the greatest move they ever made (and I say that because the Jazz didn't have to trade to get Stockton or Malone).
