Is Evans pretty much a lock to make the roster at thispoint?

Brilliant move to slide Mathews out of the way in order to make room for Evans. I'm just wondering if KOC pulled the trigger a little too early, though. He could have taken a big with no potential late in the second round, then invited Evans to camp as an undrafted free agent. Don't tell me that wouldn't have increased Evans motivation. I wish they had offered him an NBA minimum with 20 one year team options and tied this deal up the right way for once. KOC ought to hang out on message boards a bit so he can learn to run his team from pros who really understand the business.

I would be shocked if he didn't make the team. After watching the kid in summer league I felt he would make the team. He got better in summer league and he showed "off the charts" athleticism and most importantly he showed a high BB IQ. The kid knows how to play. I think he will help us some this year but if the kid learns to shoot then I think he is a rotation substitute. I just like the kid's game.

.....have never seen the kid play....but your convincing me already that I may have to eat my words!

My complaint is that they didn't sign him to a two year deal (with second year being a team option possibly) to begin with. When it comes down to it, even if they didn't have an option and it was simply a two year deal, what do you have to lose when the contract's at that cheap a price tag?

I am pretty sure it was a make good contract. Meaning he had no guarantee for the 1st year if the team wanted to cut him. I don't believe you can add a 2nd year to the contract unless your willing to guarantee the 1st year. And when that contract was signed it seemed unlikely he would even make the roster.

I'm not saying I wouldn't guarantee the first. Anyway, your point's noted about where we stood with him when we did sign him.

It took three injuries for him to even make the roster. Matthews had a terrible summer league, shooting in the low 30's. I don't think there were many that gave Wesley much thought. IIRC, we were all thinking Paul Harris would be the camp surprise. Wesley came out of nowhere, a product of working his butt off and having the cards fall exactly where they had to.

As for Evans, he was a lock to make the roster when he was drafted. Jazz knew they were getting a project. His summer league performance cemented his spot and his continued development probably means he's not only going to make the team, he's going to get some PT. I'm guessing he'll average 5-8 mins at SF while AK has to fill in at PF behind Millsap. Once Okur comes back, those mins may disappear.

...looks like he's doing some kind of hopper dance...so I'd say no! We need fundamentally sound players with athletic ability....not ESPN highlight clowns who are more interested in themselves rather than the team!

Your buffoonery knows no limits.

I went to the game Thursday night, Evans will be on the team, no doubt. He can help them against certain teams and brought a TON of energy. I took a bunch of pictures at the game, this one of him is probably my favorite of the night:

Nice photo. And it looks like plenty of people attended the game. I wonder if that's normal for preseason.
