Well, the world's most peaceful religion is at it again. Now a British man with a young family was brutally slaughtered. What's the excuse this time? Were these folks upset because they weren't being allowed to assimilate?

So every human being that has the misfortune (matter of perspective) of being born in a theocratic Muslim dictatorship or kingdom should justly be forced to remain in that situation? They should not be allowed to seek something better?

I don't think the activities of these criminals (terrorists) should condemn the rest of Islam by association. I also value the life of every human being and as an extension of that want every sentient being to have the opportunity to be free.
 
Agree. I usually stay out of these threads, but there are countries such as turkey that are predominately Muslim and decry this crap. I believe it is centered around classes. I know there are exceptions, but the poorest are the foot soldiers in this jihad and radicalized by powerful zealots.

My father lived in Turkey for some years but is Arabian. My mother is Swiss. I'm muslim but not practicing.

There is nothing like 'the Islam'. There are thousands of facets. Like liberal, moderate or radical ones as it is in all the other religions.

All I want is that people understand this. I'm sick of these prejudices and generalizations.

What is your origin? African? European? Why did your ancestors not stay there?
 
Problem is we all know there are good muslims everywhere. But these jihadists tarnish reputation of islam so no wonder western people do not like most of muslims because of that. You just do not see so many terrorist killings in the name of Christ, Buddah, Shiva or other god. For some reason it is in the name of "Almighty Allah" only.
Islam has a problem and until muslims will recognize it they won't be welcomed into Western countries.

An iconic photo of unarmed Ingrid Loyau-Kennett confronting one of the cleaver-wielding terrorists stunned the world.

'Allah' means God. Christians, Jews and Muslims have the one and same god.

Islam does not have a problem. It is the human beings that have a problem. Human beings that misuse the Islam for their own interests and might and who sell it to other stupid people as 'the Islam'. As for example the pope did wid the crusades, which, by the way, has nothing to do with Christianity.

Again, it's not the Islam, it's the human beings. If it's the Islam, as you describe, why was the Ottoman Empire for example the most peaceful empire for hundreds of years without pursuing Jews or Christians?

I'm a lawyer. I studied just next no the ETH where Einstein studied. There are so many practicing Muslims that are moderate and high educated. You can't show radical people and say that's the Islam. In fact, they have nothing to do with the Islam, they misuse it to influence people who are not well educated or ejected from society. If people let themself manipulate by Wahhabis or Salafis, it's their foolishness or bad social background and mental weakness. If it was 'the Islam' then we would have 1.6 Billion Terrorists and World War III.

I have given up to open this discussion again and again. Some people don't give an inch, are stubborn and believe whatever they want. At least I have no prejudices and generalizations towards my Christian mother, my Muslim father, my Jewish neighbour or my Atheist friends. We live in a globalized World which is multicultural.

So many racialists, stubborn people around that I try to ignore (I don't mean yourself)... It's an illusion by myself to expect people to think rationally and liberal and tolerant. The Enlightenment passed and people still couldn't catch anything and continue to think quite strange. We all are equal but different and it's good like that. I hate to have political discussions with people that are not open for new thinking.

Take the big majority of Muslims as an example: Mohammad Ali, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Hakeem Olajuwon, Enes Kanter, Memo Okur and so on! They are what I call 'real Muslims'. All some of you guys see are some crappy, crazy Terrorists. Open your eyes and don't let the media dictate the way of your thinking!

The thing that distinguishes them is what they believe "God" wants them to do.

How many muslims believe God wants all "infidels," unbelievers, to convert or die? Probably a lot more than are willing to be the impetus for that death.

After 9/11 many Americans can't help but wonder where the ticking time bombs are.

But how "Muslim" are they? I know for a fact that both Kanter and Okur drink alchohol. Im sure Kanter has tons of sex with Utah chicks. The point is there are tons of Muslims. But the more hardcore a person is in that religion the more violent views they have. Both in control of their children, wives, honor killings.... etc.

So being Muslim is fine......you just have to worry if they are REALLY Muslim.

just curious... never seen any of them perform the salah though sporting events have likely occurred during the prescribed times. how do you think they handled these situations? is it not quite obligatory?

For example Olajuwon or Jabbar are quite religious and they practice. Have you ever heard something bad about them Beantown?

You can do de Salah after the game or during the half time or before the game. You have a certain time period for every of the five Salah so you don't have to do it at the certain time if you are not able to.

And to further think about religion of peace... how you can call it that way when numerous countries consider abandonment of Islam a crime worth death penalty?
Here is how apostasy from Islam is punished in few countries. How we can look at it and say it is ok?

Iran – illegal (death penalty)
Egypt – illegal (3 years' imprisonment)
Pakistan – illegal (death penalty[9] since 2007)
United Arab Emirates – illegal (3 years' imprisonment, flogging)
Somalia – illegal (death penalty)
Afghanistan – illegal (death penalty, although the U.S. and other coalition members have put pressure that has prevented recent executions)
Saudi Arabia – illegal (death penalty, although there have been no recently reported executions)
Sudan – illegal (death penalty, although there have only been recent reports of torture, and not of execution)
Qatar – illegal (death penalty)
Yemen – illegal (death penalty)
Malaysia – illegal in five of 13 states (fine, imprisonment, and flogging)
Mauritania – illegal (death penalty if still apostate after 3 days)
Morocco – illegal to proselytise conversion (15 years' imprisonment)
Jordan – possibly illegal (fine, jail, child custody loss, marriage annulment) although officials claim otherwise, convictions are recorded for apostasy
Oman – legal in criminal code, but according to the family code, a father can lose custody of his child

....."theocratic?" Not hardly! That means "God Rule".....Muslim countries are ruled by human leaders.
