LDS Church fined for contributions to Prop 8!! HA!

Several people are missing the point here. It doesn't matter how big the fine was. The fine itself doesn't doesn't even matter much. The purpose the fine serves is exposing the contribution the LDS church made towards passing Prop 8. This is only the beginning. The truth will be exposed. The LDS church was the biggest driving force behind Prop 8. "8: The Mormon Proposition" exposes much of this. Yet I'm sure many here will just write it off without even bothering to see it. The LDS Church did want to hide their role in Prop 8. Look at the negative reaction the church has received. How much worse do you think that would be if everyone knew just how involved the church was? Well we won't have to wait long to find out. The LDS church rightfully has a black eye due to their involvement in Prop 8. They deserve any consequences that come their way as a result.

I look forward to the day when full marriage equality will come to this country. Despite what the religious right wants people to believe, it will not be the end of civilization.

Actually, I didn't mention the amount of the fine. I find it interesting that the LDS church, the church you are saying is being exposed thanks to this fine, actually appreciates, they are thankful and happy about the way the Commission - yes, the Commission that imposed the fine - handled the situation.

So the church is being exposed - this is supposed to be a negative thing for the church, right? Apparently they (the LDS church) don't get it because this "consequence" only made them appreciative. Those trying to "expose" the church and dish out "consequences" will have to do a lot better than this.

Who the **** cares?
Wow I don't know maybe ANYONE who supports equal rights for ALL people. Not just equal rights for whoever religious people say deserves them.

The following quote from the HRC sums it up nicely. There is far more to this story than just this fine.
"While the recommended fine of just more than $5,500 for the unreported late contributions of $36,968 to the Yes on 8 campaign may seem inconsequential, it represents a pattern of blatant disregard for California election laws and provides ongoing evidence that the Mormon Church was a significant leader in the campaign to repeal marriage equality, even while it evaded standard reporting requirements and denied its involvement. HRC President Joe Solmonese also commended the efforts of Fred Karger of Californians Against Hate, for filing the initial FPPC complaint that has shed light on the anti-equality activities of the Mormon Church. The issue, scheduled to be discussed at its June 10th meeting, follows the January 2009 admission by the Mormon Church to the FPPC that it failed to report in-kind contributions to the Yes on 8 campaign of $190,000. Previously the Mormon Church had failed to disclose its real involvement in the Proposition 8 campaign, as California law required it to do."

I told you all about the church making these contributions to Prop 8 on the old boad, and some chose not to believe me. Well is this enough proof for you yet?

This truly was The Mormon Proposition. What excellent timing for this news to come out. "8: The Mormon Proposition" is being released in theatres around the country next week, and in Utah this week. It's great to see the truth coming out. I look forward to seeing "8: The Mormon Proposition" again within the coming weks.

The LDS church wasn't being fined for its contributions but for failing to report them accurately. So your point is completely lost. Just because you can't get a gf and are angry at the LDS church doesn't mean that their position on this issue is wrong. Quite honestly, the position that they've taken on homosexuality is a lot "friendlier" than most other Christian, Islamic, and Jewish religions around the world.

This isn't an equal rights issue. It's a marriage issue. If gays are allowed to marry, what's to keep anyone from marrying their brother, sister, cousin, 12 year old lover, pet, tv, or football?

Do homosexuals really need to have a piece of paper signed by the state to love one another? How superficial of them. Of course, we all know that they're the tolerant deep thinkers around here. While all those evil religious people are the materialistic, superficial, close minded people....

I actually have a lot of girlfriends. Shows how much you know about me.

Would you care to elaborate on why it is "wrong" for me to be angry about the LDS church working to strip American citizens of civil rights?

LOL. Really? Great argument. What business is it of ours if two homosexuals get married? Deep down it's an issue of you not being okay with homosexuality. It's okay, just admit your bigotry and don't try and throw out lame arguments like "If gays are allowed to marry, what's to stop someone from marrying their TV?" I'm sure that's really what you're worried about. People marrying their televisions.

Look, I think marriage is a terrible idea for anybody but if two homosexuals want to do it, I don't see why anybody else should have any say in it.

You did absolutely nothing to refute my points. Instead, you threw rocks.

I guess it's much easier to just call someone a name than to actually address their points.

He's right. Homosexual love is just as legit as love between a man and a football. Does the football love back? Similarly, do you really think these homosexuals really love each other? I have looked into their souls, and it's gross what's going on there, it really is.

And yes, to want to call their love "marriage" like other couples shows how prideful and hardened of hearts these sinners are. They don't deserve citizenship or basic human rights, let alone marriage. Let us group together, my brethren, and slay their blood upon the toiled earth.

I guess it's just easier to moan about civil rights instead of actually addressing the points raised in the post above. That's the problem with the homosexual movementarians, they like to throw rocks but don't provide an adequate base for their cause.

What points? Your bogus slippery slope argument that holds absolutely no merit? Oh I'm sorry for not wanting to address such a lame argument.

Huh? What points? You compared homosexual love to a man loving a football. And then you compared homosexuality to incest. Explain to me 1) Why you're grouping those two things with homosexuality and 2) Why it's your business if someone marries a football? How many people would actually go out and get a marriage license and go through the trouble to do that? Are you being serious?

Are you related to Beanclown or something? Your arguments are even dumber than his.

The Thriller, I will bestow upon you many blessings for being a great servant of the Lord. Keep spreading the word unto every man. Remember this: I love you. Not gay people.

And we have an early front runner for the "All-Time JazzFanz G2 Neanderthal Post." Good going Thriller.

Eh, it's been done before, so all that's left are the so called rocks.

Genetic issues have been brought up before. Spousal rights have been brought up before, but you probably already knew that and chose to ignore them.

Its people like you who bitch about this stuff all the time that make me hate some of the positions I agree with.
Clearly marriage is an opportunity (not a right, marriage isn't a right its a piece of paper) that should be extended to any two willing participants. However it's not. Just like war should be something that is inevitable when it happens and not governed by special interests, but its not.
Marriage does not guarantee or deny you any rights. Its a piece of paper for god's sake.
If you did your research you would know that the church believes in equal rights and equal viewing in the eyes of the law for gay couples, they just don't endorse gay marriage (because that would be hypocritical to "the plan" which is the foundation).

Quit looking for an enemy, because you were/are alienated by your sexual orientation. People who are different are going to be alienated. Hell I'm rediculously good looking... if I went to a Nascar race I would for sure be alienated, so I try to avoid as much as possible those awkward situations.

But you're just looking for a bone to pick.

If gay marriage became legal, I'm sure you'd be just as pissed off at something else that alienated you because of your orientation.
