Official Jazz workouts thread

Steve Luhm @sluhm about 39 minutes ago Zeller said he knows Gordon Hayward. His final three college choices were Indiana, Butler and North Carolina.

It comes to no surprise to me whatsoever that Zeller knows Gordon Hayward.

I've said this many times, Cody Zeller is the Gordon Hayward of PFs...

But I question that in this case because in most scenarios a player does not workout for a team far below his draft projection. This is especially evident for players who are projected early to mid lottery--like Zeller is.

I guess that the Jazz could have had Zeller in as a favor to him or his agent as a warm up for another work-out, or some other thing....

I'd say he's Mid-Late Lottery. (i.e., exactly where Hayward was projected as well).

I'm sure everyone knows this, but just a reminder that the Jazz almost always work out 6 at a time. They love to fill up the workout with guys who will challenge the guys they are hoping to draft. Often they get mature, well coached prospects to go against higher rated young players. So young Zeller gets to go against some UVU dude who played 4 years.

I'm guessing that Siva is coming, atleast in part, to provide competion against a younger, higher ranked prospect.....or to throw passes to higher ranked post players. We shall soon see....

KOC is on 1280 tonight, and Rigby is on Weds. they should make an announcement for the other invitees.

Agreed. Good post.

I dogged on Zeller a lot, but I think he could be a kickass 3rd big. But then again, Tomic might be as well.

Zeller is a good player. I thought he was overrated when it came to the top 5 pick, but after that he's a good pick. He's never going to be flashy, but he can make all the plays.

And he's tough. Mentally and physically. Imo, more so than any other big in the draft.. he's got a controlled mean streak..... unlike his soft as charmin brother Tyler.

If he somehow drops to us we take him with out batting an eye. With that said....

PKM you said he's a physical player, yet I hear lots of experts say he got pushed around a lot. If he's getting bullied in collage then it could be worse in the nba.

I didn't see him getting pushed around much at all. Not worried about it. I did notice he wasn't lowering his center of gravity.. which is just a coaching thing (but something Ty doesn't seem to coach..).

thankfully we have Karl for that now...

Zeller is probably looking for a backstop with the Jazz. Also, I bet the Jazz have a couple offers to move up. I'd rather have #14 and #21 in this draft than, say, #11 or #12.

So it could be very possible that Friday's workout with Siva might also host Schroeder who goes back to Germany soon.

Jazz to workout six players tomorrow, including Shane Larkin (Miami), Reggie Bullock (North Carolina), Tony Mitchell (North Texas).
