Did anyone watch the new scout video of Dennis?
Yes,
My impressions: I thought the video was well done and showed well his skills and what he needs to work on. As far as video goes it is always difficult to get complete understanding of how good the player is because in videos you can cherry-pick plays to make an average player look great but DX did a good job because they included his weaknesses. I thought he was great breaking down guys off the dribble, he can get most anywhere he wants on the court. I thought his passing and court vision were very good and his spot-up shooting was better than expected.
As far as his weaknesses, yes it looked as though he struggled getting to the rim but then on his strengths he penetrated to the basket and made layups as he pleased. I can see why he isn't a top 5 prospect due to his average shooting ability (short range. Once he gets in the weight room, I think his weak ball handling will be less of an issue as he gets stronger and more experienced.
I think all his perceived weaknesses are more due to lack of experience and strength training. I think he will be able to fix most of his minor weaknesses given time and hard work. They didn't show or mention any off court issues, all they said was his body language was bad but didn't show any examples.
One must remember the kid is 19 years old so some immaturity is expected besides he has been dealing with the death of his father. This may or may not make him grow up faster but I am sure it has been difficult for the kid. After watching this video and the Nike Hoop Summit, I would definitely consider taking him at 14. I think he has a lot of upside and is only going to get stronger and better as he matures.
In interviews it seems as though his work ethic and attitude are great. I am sure that it will take him sometime to be a starter considering all that he will have to handle in his rookie year (new team, culture, language, food, residence and the NBA) but I definitely think the kid can be very good if he works his butt off.
I am a little more excited about the possibilities of the Jazz selecting Schroeder but with this excitement comes competition for him. I would be disappointed if the Jazz passed on him considering that I think he is ranked where he should be ranked (12-18) pick.
