This has almost nothing to do with size and a lot to do with the fact that perimeter defense isn't allowed. If they draft Larkin, I'll root for him although I agree based on MY knowledge (which is admittedly limited) he wouldn't be my pick at 14.
No.
You are wrong.
It has everything to do with size. Even when they could play perimeter defense a few years back you rarely saw anyone under 6 feet having much success in the NBA.
If we're merely going for a bandaid solution at the point, I'd much rather see us sign Teague or reup Mo than waste a draft pick on larkin. Use that draft pick on a better prospect. Heck, even use it on a foreigner who won't come over for another year or two.
Drafting Larkin @14 is insane. There are so many better options at the PG position let alone at other positions. You draft a guy like Larkin in the late 1st round early 2nd round. You don't draft them in the teens. Besides, even if he does pan out, he will forever be a defensive liability just about every single night. As Jazz fans, aren't we being tired of having our PG position be such a liability? I for one am. I'm getting tired of opposing PGs scoring 30+ on us as our PGs put up little to no resistance.
Man, with as many holes as we have to fill it's amazing that fans are actually considering Larkin @ 14. Dude is at best a career backup ala Nate Robinson or Earl Boykins.
Whether Jazz fans want to admit it or not, but the NBA is evolving. Judging from the way we have developed our young players (by not playing them) and with our stubbornness to use the 3 point shot (last year was the first year that we let it rip from deep) we have a long way to go to join the 21st century NBA. Even the Spurs have adjusted. It's time we do too. We need to get bigger, faster, stronger, and use the pick and roll to set up Kanter/Favors dunks and 3 point chucks from our guards.
No more Alfrense.
