Official Jazz workouts thread

I would probably trade #14 + #21 sooner than I'd trade Burks. I'm not sure either trade is worth it unless there's someone we're completely sold on at #9. I think McCollum would be a great fit with the Jazz though. McCollum + Hayward + Burks is a good guard rotation.

for those that would be curious it is possible to get McCollum and schröder... trade 14 and 21 to minny for 9 and take Marion for 13. there McCollum and schröder.

I am totally on board with drafting wolters. I think on the right team he is going to surprise next year.

I was playing around with this idea at work today

switch picks with okc jazz give 14,21 and 46 get 12, 29 and 32
buy Dallas pick by taking Marion off their hands

with 12 draft BPA was hoping bazz
13 take a euro to stash may e saric. (schröder wants to come now)
29 take wolters
32 take another euro stash like livio jean-Charles or another pg like canaan.

bring tomic over with a front loaded contract so he can get a buyout. 3 year deal sounds right
bring Williams back for 2 years with 3rd year option

williams, wolters,
Hayward, burks
Marion, bazz, Carroll
favors, Williams, Evans
kanter, tomic, Aldrich (for fun vet min type of deal)

next year

Harrison, (yes I am feeling lucky), Williams, wolters
Hayward, burks
shabazz, saric, Carroll
favors, ljc, Evans
kanter, tomic, Aldrich

I like that team.

This looks like a big workout today in PHX, will be interesting what came out of it:

Utah Jazz Nation ‏@Utah_JazzNation 4h
Another big workout today in PHX. Trey Burke, Michael Carter-Williams, Shane Larkin, CJ McCollum

Anyone know when schroeder is working out tomorrow? Im going to hangout outside the practice facility and get a picture with him.

Utah Jazz ‏@utahjazz 1m
Six more prospects will workout for the Jazz tomorrow, including Dennis Schroeder, Steven Adams and Peyton Silva. #utahjazzdraft

2 of my favorite guys coming in, both potential #14 picks, Schroeder & Adams.

That made it sound like Burke worked with the others. He didn't. He worked out the same day but had a private workout session.

Phx is talking about drafting a second ball handler to mimic GS and Denver. Should play right into Horny's style. They could be a fun team to watch and I might even be tempted to cheer for them, when they are not playing the Jazz.

If Hornacek thinks he can help improve MCW - he has a much better upside than Burke IMO. He'll also fit very well into that run & gun style of offense.

Steve Luhm @sluhm Jerry Sloan again attended Jazz pre-draft workout(Thursdays). Slips in after it starts, stands in corner of the gym, slips out before reporters enter. After today, Jazz have worked out 20 players. Draft still three weeks away. Utah has three picks: Nos. 14, 21 and 46 ....

Steve Luhm @sluhm Players who will work out for the Jazz on Friday: Steven Adams, Jack Cooley, Richard Howell, Kenny Kadji, Peyton Siva, Dennis Schroeder. After Friday, PGs who have worked out for the Jazz will be Siva, Schroeder, Wolters, Kabongo, Jackson, Larkin, Brown, Blue (combo guard)

If I was sizing things up based soley on the workouts, then I would say the Jazz are trying for a big with 14 and hope that Larkin or Schaeder falls to 21. And they are also prepared to draft a pg in round#2.

I think that may be reading into it a little too much. I think they just know that with so many prospects clumped in the 10-20 range, it's entirely possible that players they don't expect to be there will and players they expect to be there won't. Just trying to do their due diligence.

Everything at this point is a smokescreen.

Agree. I don't think the Jazz would hesitate to draft a big if, for example, they were very high on Zeller and he dropped. On the other hand, bigs are always taken higher so going PG or SG at #14 might bring better value. I don't think the Jazz are really expecting to get a future starter out of the draft. But if 2 or even all 3 picks develop into solid backups, then this draft will be a success.

LOL ... bro.. I just realized something...

If we somehow were able to get Schroeder - wouldn't you have to changed your name again, to Core 5???

They better have an alternative plan in place, but its doubtful those two PGs slip to 21. Maybe Larkin, but now that doesn't even look likely.

Nope, because Burks would likely be the odd man out when it came time for big contracts. Most teams only have 4 decent starters and the 5th is a space holder, barely getting any looks. I'm fairly confident Hayward, Favors and Kanter represent 3 building blocks. The 4th is still TBD.

I see... you have thought this through. Well done.

In fact, I wouldn't be all that surprised to see the Jazz make a VERY good acquisition at the deadline, with Utah assuming salary but also giving up Burks. Most teams are trying for a "Big 3" model. I've said before I think Utah will have several years where they can have a "Pretty Big 4." I think it very unlikely Favors, Hayward and Kanter get MAX deals. If the Jazz do it right, there's room to add one more big contract with that group, unlike OKC which had to give up Harden, or Indiana, which is now going to face some hard choices with George demanding a MAX deal.

I think the Jazz should trade up to get McCollum and feel gratified if they get one more rotation player out of this draft. There are plenty to choose from. That would earn them an A draft grade.

They'd also hit a home run if they could acquire another pick in their range and get another talent like Adams, Giannis, Rice Jr., or even Saric to go along with McCollum or Schroeder. That would be an A+.
