Official Jazz workouts thread

I think the Jazz should trade up to get McCollum and feel gratified if they get one more rotation player out of this draft. There are plenty to choose from. That would earn them an A draft grade.

They'd also hit a home run if they could acquire another pick in their range and get another talent like Adams, Giannis, Rice Jr., or even Saric to go along with McCollum or Schroeder. That would be an A+.

Why trade up for McCollum? Is he really a game changer? Stay pat, draft wisely, and you'll have 3 rotation guys, not 2.

I think Rice Jr. could be a huge pickup at 21 if he's available. He looks really long and versatile and seems like a beast in transition, which is where this team needs to thrive to be successful.

Maybe not our first position of need, but he looks to me like a guy who can contribute immediately. Very little doubt in my mind he'll be at the very least a solid NBA player.

I take it the reason this thread is so quiet is because everybody is standing outside the Jazz workout facility waiting to creep out I mean say hi to Schroeder?

@Austinhorton:

Asked how Siva did today, Walt Perrin was borderline giddy in his evaluation. Believes he will be a strong contributing piece for someone.

Perrin says Schroeder needs to improve his strength and finishing skills, but likes how easily he can get "deep in the paint."

Perrin doesn't necessarily buy the Rondo-Schroeder comparison, saying their body types are really the only true similarity.

Shane Larkin impressed the Jazz apparently.

Shane Larkin performed well during a pre-draft workout with the Utah Jazz on Thursday.

Larkin is listed at 5-feet-11 inches, but compensates with a 44-inch vertical leap.

“Shane’s 44 vertical is unbelievable for a point guard,’’ Jazz head scout Walt Perrin said. “It was eye-popping seeing those kind of numbers from Shane.’’

Perrin minimized Larkin’s diminutive height.

“Does it matter? There’s a couple of other players in the league (that size) still playing. If a guy can play, it doesn’t matter what his size is,’’ Perrin said. “We think he can play. How well he plays on this level is something we have to evaluate.”

Whoopie. He can jump. We already knew he could get to the hoop, and score.

The question will be can he stay in front of any good NBA PG?
I'm sold on him on offense.

Having a super atheltic PG is a big plus. His atheticism and jumping skills should not be taken lightly.

But I do agree about his defense. With his speed and athletic ability he should be more than a capable defender.

Larkin can jump very high in the gym. Does it benefit him on the court in some way? I've never even seen him dunk the ball, despite that insane vert.

I'm not advocating for Larkin here, but how many PGs currently in the league can stay in front of the top PGs? I think if this were the 90's when teams would exploit matchups down low (Get a big vs a small) rather than on the perimeter (get a small vs a big) which is what the trend is now, I think it would be a bigger issue.

How many winnings teams have PG's who cant guard anyone? I get the love on Larkin.
But can he stay in games late? It's a legit question. I don't want to draft a guy at 14 to be our starter
who has a mass deficiency in his game. Are the draft reports off?

Seriously, though. Doesn't anyone else find it strange that someone has one of the highest vertical leaps in combine history, yet you never see him dunking in any of his highlight reels?

Not really. Nate Robinson won multiple dunk contests, and has been in the league for about 10 years, and probably has a total of 15 in-game dunks in his career.

From the scouting videos I've seen his defensive defenciencies appear to be more a lack of effort than ability. Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing, but that's my take. In my own opinion I think a PGs defensive abilities is of minimal importance. I do think that for the other 4 positions you need either elite or competent defenders to be good, but not necessarily a PG. Heck Steve Nash is an awful defender and won two MVPs and probably should have gone to at least one (if not two) finals. Yeah they never got there, but if you asked someone for some reasons why they never made it to the finals, you'd hear a lot of "David Sterns" and not too many about Nash's lack of defense.

"Schroeder heading home after working out for Utah..."

will it be the last time he enters our training facility?
