Okur Update

Okur's ability to stretch the floor is crucial for Utah and it creates match-up nightmares for opposing defenses. Not that he doesn't come with a few negatives, but anybody wanting Okur out of the line-up in favor of a journyman like Ellefson or a still unproved Fesenko is a bafoon.

+1

Okur's role will be off the bench to pull out the other teams defense so that Sap or Al have more room to operate inside. If the defense collapses to double team our post player Okur is there to drop a three on them. I just hate saying that we're paying a role player 11 mil.

Lol. So we're not allowed to criticize NBA players now unless we are better than them?

Yeah, but that's your worthless opinion lol.
You can call Okur terrible all you want.....
But the fact is, he's one of the best shooters for his size in the entire world.
He's not the greatest defender, but he probably defended Yao better than I'd ever seen a big guy guard him a few years ago.

Players don't want to get hurt, and I'm sure that's why certain players don't go crazy on defense every night.
Most of those players only last 10 years in the league, AKA Jerry Sloan, and Matt Harpring.

Memo came into the league very late, and is already into his 30's.
I expect him to come off the bench, and bring a hell of a lot of depth.

Okur is a big part of the Jazz. He can shoot the lights out, rebounds pretty well when not overused and if he recovers fully he will be better off playing with Jefferson then he was with the injury prone faking matador. He needs to have his minutes reduced which will be and he might be better off coming off the bench, but at the end of the game you want him on the floor and looking to take the big shot, cause he usually makes it.

Agreed.
But I don't hate the fact Okur is getting 11 mil.
Okur was here carrying this team before Deron WIlliams was ever here, that's why he has the contract he does.
The year Booz, AK and everybody else was constantly hurt, Okur was putting up the numbers.
Our team was crap, but Memo gave 110 percent every night. Remember the 2 San Antonio game winners?

When it comes to the clutch, he's one of the best players we've ever brought to the franchise.
Even Korver sucked with the Jazz most of the time.
But Okur has thrived in our offense, and made defending the post a nightmare.

Can you imagine the Stockton to Malone era with a Center like Okur?
There would be no help for Jordan and the Bulls ;-)

Okur is terrible.

Ok, now I'm getting pissed off.

So really, you would prefer a fumbly Fesenko or Elson backing us up???

You must not be a Jazz fan, or you would remember how terribly Okur has put the ball in the basket over the years.

When all the other ******* were hurt, Okur was out there carrying the team.
Waaaaaaayy before Deron Williams was ever drafted.

Okur was on the Jazz one season before Deron was drafted. The Jazz finished that season with a record of 26-56. Okur averaged a stellar 12.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. In +/-, the Jazz were no better with Okur on the court than with him off the court.

Am I missing something?

Yes, apparently you're an idiot and you can't play better than Okur so shuddup, lol ok??

Facts don't matter. He's tall, and got a cool goatee.

The merits of Memo are obvious for the people that have even the lowest basketball IQ.

Once healthy, he is immediately the BEST 3 point threat Utah has. That's pretty damn crucial for a team that wants to play the game inside-out and currently doesn't have an array of 3 point specialists to choose from. Memo is ESSENTIAL for how Utah wants to play offensively. Escpecially now with Al Jefferson in the mix representing Utah's first true low-post threat since Karl left. I think to start the season Utah can win some games and sneak by without Memo playing his role, but come playoff time Utah won't go very far if they have an inside game and no outside threat to make defenses play honestly.

Not only can he hit the 3, he can hit it when it matters most. Memo is clutch. Period.

He has produced for Utah since the day he was brought here. Is he a defensive stopper? No, but neither is 99.9% of the other players in the NBA. However, he does play hard on defense and he will no longer be guarding the middle for a defensive liability like Carlos Boozer.

The Utah Jazz need Memo Okur.

I'd say that's pretty much a "duh", to all the idiots out there.
Since 04/05 (in the regular season...Okur's even worse in the playoffs), the Jazz have outscored their opponents by 1.289 points per 48 minutes with Okur on the court. They've outscored their opponents by 2.610 per 48 minutes with Okur off the court. To simplify for the idiots out there, the Jazz outscore their opponents by TWICE as much with Okur off the court than they do with him on the court.

"duh"?

False (I didn't want to add any more substance than you did).

Silencer but Deadly remarks. The thing about Okur that separated him from Boozer is he cares about the Jazz, he always played hurt sometimes when he should not have, and he loves being a member of the Jazz. Stockton and Malone era with Okur? Off the bench for 20-22 minutes yes, I think Sloan would have had at least one champoinship ring. As a starter and a guy logging 35 minutes not so sure about.

So because the ogur spreads the floor and hits a few three-balls we're supposed to believe that he's not the oaf that he truly is? Sorry, don't buy it. What we gain with those two admittedly positive aspects that he brings do not outweigh his atrocious defense and slow-as-a-snail demeanor on the floor. Yes, I'd rather see Fes develop his game by taking Ogur's actual game-time minutes rather than garbage time. Last time I checked, we needed desperate height and toughness in the middle, not an occasional three from a slow-as-molasses ogur. The "he spreads the floor" justification for this guy's suckiness is getting old. And the dude hasn't exactly been "clutch" in quite a few years now. Guy's a decent sub for us, nothing more.

I look forward to the game Memo makes his return. He brings an added dimension to this team with his ability to hit the 3 and spread the floor. Obviously, his minutes are going to drop, but I think he is going to work well with Jefferson. I get the impression that he is well-liked by his teammates...so some of his "value" is going to be adding to the overall chemistry of the team as they grow together this year. He has my respect for trying to play through the pain in his achillies during the playoffs last year, before he blew it out for good. Get well soon Memo!

can you provide us with the same numbers for the rest of the team so we know who exactly should play and who shouldn't?
