Worst Move? Drafting Hayward over George or Burks over Leonard?

If you want to judge them on a PER basis, George (16.84) and Hayward (16.81) are virtually identical. Judging their scoring ability by true shooting, Hayward (56.4%) is superior to George (53.1%). George's length and athleticism will give him a little higher ceiling and I would take George, but right now, its fairly close.

draft redo

You can second guess, but George surprised the experts and GMs. He was a consensus #12 and props to the Pacers. He took advantage of injury opportunities nicely, or we would not be having this discussion.

Draft re-do without Hayward
1.Wall
2.Cousins
3.George
4.Monroe
5. Favors
6. Bledsoe
7. Turner
8. Bradley
9. Sanders
10. Lin
11. Davis
12. Patterson
13. Vasquez
14. Aminu

Are there 8 players better than Hayward? I'd take him over around #6, over bledsoe, turner, bradley, and below. I could see good arguments for #9 at the lowest.

I'd put Vasquez over Lin and Davis. I'd put everyone over Davis. Ed Davis sucks.

Isn't Sanders decent? I would move him up a couple spots.

anybody who defended hayward and burks in this thread is a moron. Kawhi and George are true studs as evidence in the playoffs

I haven't read the thread, but I'm curious how people are judging Burks. I would say that thanks to Ty Corbin we simply cannot judge him for bad or for good, let alone compare to a guy who has gotten consistent minutes basically since he's been in the league (not to mention on a team with one of the greatest coaches in NBA history and playing with some of the best passing unselfish stars we've ever seen).

We can't judge Burks because he has rarely played consistent big minutes. On those rare occasions that he has played fairly big minutes on a consistent basis - for example this Feb thru early March, he put up 11 ppg, on 46% FGs (50% 3pt), 4 rebs, 3 asts in 28 mpg - he has played well. Compare that to Leonard who got 12 ppg 6 reb, 2 asts on 49% FGs (37% 3pt) in 31 mpg. Pretty damn comparable stats. Problem is, while the stats are indeed very close - (depending on what you value, Burks could be better), Leonard did it over an entire season, where Burks did it only just over a month. Leonard, again, had the far superior coaching and teammates. Bottom line is that this is an absolute apples to oranges comparison.

Burks is the bigger mistake. I don't think Burks will ever be a starter in this league, while I think Hayward might end up with a similar career to George.

My prediction is Hayward won't be too much behind George, and Burks will be better than Leonard.

Haven't read much of the thread and both those guys were my preferred picks before the Jazz made their selections. However, the more important question that need be asked is why are these guys playing big playoff minutes and guarding LeBron in the ECF/finals and yet our FO/coaching mantra is that these guys can't be trusted with consistent minutes on a non-playoff squad. That's infuriorating. After I saw Hayward play in his first preseason I was okay with the pick. Not so sure about Burks, mainly because I'm not so sure about Burks in general.

I agree with everything that is still mentioned.

Watching these playoffs got me thinking....

Imagine these true "studs" as our starting wings. George is athletic enough to handle SG duties.

Our Core 4 would have true Championship potential, as it stands now , we'll need Favors and Kanter to be absolutely unstoppable to even sniff the Finals

cant say becuase hayward en leanord got trust from their coach and miutes.

buks and hayward diod not
so pleas estop posting this stupid questiosns

you guys are missing the player the jazz should have really drafted over Burks, its clearly Iman Shumpert, at least for the last 2 season, i like burks chances in the all important 3rd season
,
Danny Green is proving to be more valuable than Leonard.. no?

Indi wouldent take all our picks plus gordon hayward, plus 2015 1st for Paul George, fact

If I were Indy I would do that deal. They're in trouble right now IMO.

They have Hibbert on Max. They should really bring back West at near Max. On top of all that, George will be demanding Max. The old 3 Max player model is no longer working with the Hard Cap.

If I were Indy, I'd rather trade George right now, bring back Hayward at a cheaper price, and keep the flexibility going forward. Hibbert & West are really the backbone of that team.
