Official Jazz workouts thread

Posted this in the "Following the 2013 draftees" as well...

Dennis Schroder has a work out with the Houston Rockets on June 26th the day before the draft, why? The Rockets have no first round pick? I don't want the dude just makes it more secure the Jazz won't be taking him if Houston is working him out!

May be he plans to.. but hasn't yet.

From an SB Nation article about McCollum working out for Portland:

"Since then, the 6-foot-3, 197-pound combo guard has been to Orlando and Philadelphia for private, individual workouts. Starting Thursday in Phoenix, McCollum will display his skills for six other teams - Phoenix, Sacramento, Portland, Minnesota, Utah and Detroit - before returning to his temporary home away from home (Long Island) on June 20."

This is why I think Zeller's and McCollum's agents (as well as probably other teams) know we're looking to move up, and we have the ability to do so.

Houston is going after Howard, right? Maybe they have a team interested in acquiring Lin for a mid-first. That would certainly give them salary space.

The team we'd have a deal to move up with would probably be one of the other teams working out McCollum: Sactown, Detroit, Minnesota or Portland. Personally, I think we should do a deal with Dallas, move up and keep either the 13th or 14th pick.

Getting McCollum + Giannis would be stellar in my book.

Not with his back-loaded contract ($5.2M for next season, then a jump to $10M for the next two, IINM).

But putting HOward and Harden with an unproven rookie PG with questionable 3pt shooting? Houston is just doing it to leverage or scare somebody. Its Houston, its what they do. They steal from Sacramento and bluff everyone else.

I figure it is Sacramento or Minny. Both are feeling the pressure to make the playoffs, adding another young player could be worth less to them than the ability to dump a salary and sign mid-tier FA's that will get them to the playoffs. Sacramento is also trying to make a new image with new ownership and have to deal with the new financials after giving up a chunk of thier profit sharing. (Sac. was also trying to sell Isaiah Thomas for a mid 1st round pick)

How about 9 & 26 for 14 and 21?

I think that's a good move for the Jazz. Minny reportedly wants a shooting guard with size, which puts KCP on their radar. Minny may want #46 also or a future 2nd-round pick, but getting #9 gives us a shot at McCollum, Zeller, Shabazz and Adams.

A lot of Portland fans don't like their draft position at #10, and I think they'd gladly take two picks for one by trading with the Jazz, but I'm not sure the Jazz would do that deal.

I'd still try to get Dallas' pick and take Giannis with it. Giannis running a pick-and-roll with Favors would be nasty.

If they're only half serious I don't think Schroeder's agent would be stupid enough to have him bust his *** out there for a work out? If I were his agent, I'd just hang up the phone.

There must be a trade already lined-up and semi-confirmed, contingent on the outcome of the workout, IMO.
