Official Jazz workouts thread

The more I think about it, I really wish the Jazz would target KCP and get him in for a workout. He's athletic, made great improvement from last year to this year, is a good perimeter defender (only Hayward did this last year for us), great rebounder for position at 7.1 per game(!), can shoot it, great size for his position, etc. If we don't think our PG is in this draft, KCP would be a good fit for our team, even if we had to move up to get him.

I've never been very high on KCP.. like him, but not a lot. And, of all positions, I think we need a SG the least.

Really? The F/O seems to think Hayward is a 3. Who does that leave us with? Burks, Mcneal and Murphy. Murphy and McNeal are unproven, and Burks is good at getting to the basket, but he can't shoot consistently, or play effective defense at this point in his career. I think SG is one of our biggest needs if Hayward, Evans, Carroll, and Marvin are all going to share some minutes at the 3, that's not a need. We have studs for PF and C, and I admit we could use a better backup than Evans or Marvin, but at least that position is more solidified.

and I don't mean my question rude, I am asking because you seem like a knowledgeable person. Maybe you have some perspective that I'm not seeing.

I'm just always hearing that Hayward can't guard NBA sf's.... I think he's a SF, incidentally. I'm just going off of what the majority here believe and that is he's a SG.

I could also say we could use a 3 man rotation of Hayward, Burks, and KCP/Crabbe/Bullock/Rice/Ledo/etc to cover the SG/SF spots.

Haywards position is a big sore spot for me. If the Jazz knew he couldn't gaurd a sf why did they draft Burks instead of Leonard? If they think he is a sf, then why play him so much at the sg the last two years? I don't like how the jazz have handled it.

If he's not one or the other I think it may be time to look for another solution.*

*Edit- The Solution I was refering to is at SF and SG starter and Hayward becoming the first player off the bench as sg or sf depending on the matchup.

Jazz working out CJ McCollum. Another projected top 10. Either Lindsey is a very good liar, has very good friendships with some agents, or the Jazz have a plan to move up. Two of those three are probably correct.

I feel your pain

Hayward just struggles to guard big SFs like Lebron, Josh Smith and Lamar Odom types. He can play SF, but he has a better size advantage as a SG.

This is how I see it, and I think how our f/o sees it. Who doesn't struggle to gaurd those guys? I don't think there is anyone in this draft who could do the sf position more justice, but I think KCP would be a good upgrade to the 2 spot, and Burks could be our 6th man of the future while holding down the pg spot until we can snag Marcus Smart or someone like that next year.

Yep, he is often giving up 30 pounds and 4 inches of reach at SF. My theory is you go as big as you can at a position as long as the player can guard his opponent on the perimeter. Hayward has good enough lateral speed to guard SGs, and as we know, can occasionally use his size to block shots when he does get beat.

Wow I missed that, good job hottt.
First it was Larkin who hinted that he saw Locke's scouting report and wanted to disprove him and now McCollum is on Locke.

I hope we draft CJ just for this drama with Locke.

Hold on there, KKK. This is the correct sequence of events:

David Locke ‏@Lockedonsports
Re-watching C.J McCollum video - he is one of the more sure things in this draft and I could see a team thinking he is a very good PG

David Locke ‏@Lockedonsports
Chance CJ McCollum turns into very solid 6'3 NBA starting point guard - worst case he is a really good 3rd guard who plays for a decade
