Official Jazz workouts thread

With Goodwin and MCW isn't that everyone who is projected 1st rounders from about 7 on down?

Jazz saw Karasev in Vegas, and Lindsey went to Greece to see Gianis. Ledo and Noguirea and CJ Leslie are the only other possibles.

At an estimated $1,400 per player the Millers spent a fortune on this draft.

We didn't work out Olynyk or Rice Jr. did we? What about Reggie Bullock?

I will say, it looks like the workouts have been well organized. Maybe this is how the Spurs made all those gem picks. This Lindsey guy seems pretty thorough and buttoned up.

Pretty sure Bullock and Olynyk already came through... I remember Olynyk talking about John Stockton...

Are you sure he put that deal together? Isn't Buford the GM?

Well at least we know he was involved... I recall him saying in an interview that he was on the phone with Indiana's assistant GM at the time the Jazz was on the clock. When we picked Burks, the deal was "ALL GO".

Look, who knows how involved he was, at least he was part of that deal, so at least he had that...

Whatever Lindsey's involvement, it's good to have someone from the outside that could come in, review what the Jazz were doing and make changes as needed. The Jazz had been doing the "same old, same old" for too long. And we see what that's netted them in the 14-25 range since 1986. Way too many outright busts to compensate for getting lucky with AK or mildly successful with Ronnie Brewer, etc. Jazz needed a fresh approach to drafting and to evaluating FA's. And they got a guy from the best organization in basketball to bring those methods to Utah. Even if Lindsey only remembered HALF of what Buford and Pops do in SA, that still puts the Jazz way ahead of where they've been.

Work pays off. There are NBA players all over the place but you have to look to find them all over the place. Finding a new NBA player saves a TON of money, and that's how you can sell the extra cost to ownership. The Spurs - as usual - have been smoking the rest of the NBA for over a decade on this front. That extra time and money that you dump into scouting pays itself off several times over (Gary Neal, Danny Green, George Hill/Kawhi Leonard, many other examples).

Work pays off.

I'd name Parker and Ginobili first when you mention scouting success of the spurs. Parker was like 28th pick and Ginobili 57th. Thats what I call a big time steal. But to be fair, that was in an age where NBA franchises pioneered with expanding more and more outside the College landscape.

Yea too much preparation is rarely a bad thing. I like the fact that Lindsey is shaking things up and taking a more proactive approach.

Perhaps in the boring months of august & september we can discuss the 'Spurs Model' and the bennifits and downfalls of over half the league trying to replicate it.

I see the large numbers of players at the workouts are primarily to stay in 4 vs 4 settings as much as possible.
