Following potential 2013 draftees

https://www.draftexpress.com/article/Just-By-the-Numbers-the-2013-Point-Guard-Crop-4269

I was just reading this on Draft Express and thinking Wolters stacked up better than expected against other points. Schroeder seems to be overhyped.

I think this Schroeder vs Wolters thing has a lot to do with how you project each player in 5-6 years time.

Dennis Lindsey said it best in an interview last week.. we want to pick the Best Play Available over the course of His Career. And that's why the draft process is as much a science as it is art. How do you project the Paul George vs Hayward pairing?

It's not how good the players are now. It's how you project them to be in 5-6-7 years time when they're able to fully contribute and be the face of our franchise.

Just craziness. 9 days to the draft and the team with the #1 pick still is considering 5 options.

If I was Cavs GM, and I knew I had to make the playoffs this year to keep my job. I would take Porter #1, and at 19 take my favorite of who was left at pf/c from Olynky, Nogurrie, Dieng or Gobert. #31 is a great place to catch a guy falling out of the first round and 33 isn't too shabby either. One of those picks would get me a back-up scoring pg (Cainan, Walters, Green). The other pick would be Mike Musculla as a stretch 4 if he was available and if he is not Snell, Rice, or even another pg/sg.

To be honest I think this is just a call out to all the teams interested in those 5 guys saying "Hey guys, if you're interested in any of these players, be sure to give us a call, cos you never know, we might just like him and grab him for ourselves".

Yea, Nick Cavs played that trick in 2011, and they spit out another 'rumour' each week about a different top choice just to see if it will get any bites. But future assetts aren't going to save the GM his job, he better be finding away to make that 8th spot in the East. I figure surrounding Kyrie with shooters is his best bet.

BTW I don't buy the whole "We'll make the playoffs this year" talk from Gilbert. Not 1 bit. I just find it hard to believe that they've come this far in the rebuilding process and yet they can't take it 1 more step to have a chance at Wiggins? I think they're just putting it out there this year to ensure the fans still have something to hope for.

Kyrie + Wiggins + Noel ... is a mouthwatering 3-some.. (the future Westbrook + Durant + Ibaka?)

Just not buying the Cavs taking Len. He is on par with JV as a prospect and they passed on JV at #4 for a very non spectacular forward Tristan Thompson.

It's been a while since anyone talked about Erick Green, but he looks like a value pick in the late first or early 2nd. Did the Jazz bring him in? ACC Player of the Year as a senior.

Are you kidding? Jazz have brought everybody in.

LOL.. Locke on Larkin:

"At #14, I have a hard time with it... I mean he's 5'11 with a 5'11 wingspan".

"Compare him to Canaan, and I don't think there's a big different between the 2".

Right now I have the Jazz taking Gobert at 14, Bullock at 21. Maybe they trade up for the Cavs first 2nd round pick to get either Erick Green, Isaiah Canaan, or Nate Wolters.

I've got to be honest, Erick Green wasn't even on my radar, but after doing some homework, I really like the kid.

Love how he is honest with what his weaknesses are and has a desire to fix them. Some prospects sugar coat their weaknesses, which is just stupid. It makes you question whether they're smart enough to fix them.

6'3 with a 6'7 Wingspan (says 6'5.75 on draftexpress website).
athletic
25 ppg, an able distributor sounds very good to me.

Off the ball defense is something he CAN improve on with his athleticism/ size. Getting stronger and adding weight are more questionable since he is 22. I'm sure he can add 10 lbs, but I doubt he'll be hitting 200 or anything like that. Still, 178 lbs is still 22 lbs more than Schroeder.

I'd be just as comfortable with Erick Green as I would Carter-Williams, though MCW is more established as a passer.

At the least, Green should be a solid 3rd guard off the bench, a bit like a Leandro Barbosa.

Jonathan Givony on David Locke's podcast...

https://weareutahjazz.com/lockedonj...xpert-from-nba-draft-express-jonathan-givony/

Some points from Givony:

* He thinks if there is an All Pro in this draft, it's Alex Len

* Thinks Oladipo has some All Star potential

* Thinks Noel, Burke, Porter, Bennett and Giannis are starters in the league

* Thinks Trey Burke is the best PG in the draft followed by McCollum; he thinks there is a drop-off after that

* If he were drafting for the Jazz at 14 and Carter-Williams, Schroeder, Larkin and Erick Green were on the board, he would take Schroeder; says Schroeder needs a supportive environment, but the Jazz could give him that.

* He thinks Giannis is a top 10 talent in the draft.

* He likes Erick Green and thinks Green could get taken in the 20s

* He is impressed with Shabazz's ability to score and thinks it will translate, but can't vouch for Shabazz getting many assists

2013 Draft

- I don't believe in Bad draft.. I do believe in the American talent pool and this year is very good for Inter talent. All the years we've been doing this I haven't seen a "Strong" draft yet
- Latest Mock: Larkin at #14 and Franklin at #21
- This year not as much separation that you usually see - #7 could be #27 in someone else' board
- "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder Draft"
- Every year lots of surprises, this year there'll be more than most, there's always guys that fall and rise
- I used to get frustrated by it, now I just "enjoy it"
- If you have the draft 5 times, it will probably come out 5 different ways (from hearing stories from the war rooms).

Point Guard

- I really like Trey Burke - he's clearly the best
- I'm a big McCollum fan, then a big drop off from there
- Schroeder has a chance to be good, but many question marks
- He came to US, did workouts, got homesick and went home
- Never know how he'll handle NBA lifestyle

- Not huge on MCW
- I like Erik Green, Nate Wolters,..
- Larkin won't be a starter, but a solid backup
- Not big on Jackson or Canaan
- Locke: When we chatted 2 years ago, we didn't agree with your opinions. I like don't like McCollum, but I like MCW - he's so long and fabulous what we can do
- Givony: Do you realize MCW is only 1 inch longer than Burke?
- Locke: Yeah but he he's so long
- Givony: But why can't he finish at the rim?
- Locke: But he'll get more space... I just like him. I'm not sure I like Trey Burke. BTW it's 1 inch and 3/4, not just 1 inch.
- Givony: Well, all MCW has is his height. I'd rather go with Burke who can score, has a deep range, etc. I like the guy who can score anywhere on the floor and is a pure PG

- Locke: How about Larkin VS Canaan?
- Givony: Both undersized. Larkin is more of a PG, has better size. Canaan is more about "getting his", not always about the team. Both can shoot the ball.
- Locke: But Larkin is really small... what have you guys learnt from the past when looking at diminutive player who has been successful?
- Givony: No. Nobody this small has EVER been successful. But he is a phenomenal athlete and incredible skill...

Schroeder

- He's not as "tough"
- He comes from a poor family, didn't have an easy upbringing.. He has issues in the past with authority, temper, he isn't the easiest guy to manage
- But he has improved. He'll need a support system.
- His agent said: I don't care which pick, I want a good place for him and a good support system
- He isn't a bad person, he could just be immature...
- I actually like him quite a bit, he's a really nice kid, people just need to be aware of his position ...

Jazz

- If McCollum is gone, I would take Schroeder over MCW, Larkin, etc..
- I think Utah is a STRONG org. They can surround him with good people and get the most out of Schroeder

Big Guys

- Noel is thin, but he got injured, he will fill out, it's not that big of a concern, he could be a senior in high school
- I'm not too concerned about that - it's overblown.
- Interesting group - don't usually see so many 7 footers in the mid first round
- It really depends who you're looking for..
- Bebe - He didn't play a lot, hard to jump up and down with a guy like that. I think he could be a solid backup

Future Potential

- Locke: Starter out of our top 5?
- Givony: All Pro = Alex Len
- Givony: All Star = Oladipo
- Givony: Starter = Burke, Noel, Porter, Adentoukounbo, Bennett, Gorgui Dieng
- Givony: Potential 2nd round starter: Erik Green & Jacky Carmichael

Locke: "I LOVE THIS - we've got so different opinion!!!!"

Bazz

- Disdain from Bazz comes from being cheated over the false info (age)
- I'm not as down on him, there's value in scoring
- He'll be able to put up points on NBA (but may be not as efficient)
- He's still one of the youngest guys
- He'll be OK, but he's not who we thought he was
