Please tell me Jazz either trade up for PG they *really* want (McCollum/Burke) or go BIG at 14 (Dieng) and take one of the leftover PGs/BAP at 21. Isn't that their better option, considering their defensive needs (21st in league)?

I think you have their plan right. There's a chance either Burke, McCollum or Carter-Williams will be there at 14. The draft is that unpredictable. If they aren't, see them going for a big here (Nogueira, Olynyk, maybe Dieng) and then addressing PG at 21. Sounds like Larkin, Schroeder, Isaiah Canaan all strongly in the mix at 21."

What do you think?

I think much of our lack of d-fence come from the players we had playing the primary rale. AKA big gal and mo W and foy 3.. i think it is always good to grab a big good d minded big man, but i think with kanter and favors locking down the front lines we need to take care of our biggest need. this being a PG with alot of upside. i think there will be a d minded big man still around at 21. i worry that the pg prospects could be rather thin come 21. AS a jazz fan i jsut dont want to see 32 mins a night from a mo w type player. i dont want to sastain, i want us to be able to compete!

I understand your point (pun intended), but there just may not be a starting PG available in this draft. If wings go early, then a very solid 3rd big could be there for the taking at #14. And at #21, we'd still get a backup PG. But the reverse is likely not going to happen. Pick a marginal PG, who is likely more of a small SG than true point, at #14 and there won't be any serviceable PF/C's at #21. I don;t always agree with Ford, but he's saying what I have been posting for the last week, namely that the Jazz may be more intent on solidifying the big rotation than reaching for the position of greatest need (at least greatest need according to their current roster).

More or less agree with Ford. Think they'll go big or Giannis/Bazz at 14, and evaluate the PG crop at 21 and 46. There is always Calderon readily available as well, and we have a lot money that must be spent per the new CBA.

i can understand your point aswell... but i would rather not have to suffer though another year of mo running the show.. the guy plays hero ball and thows up shots that never should be taken... sure it can thrilling to see a 3 go down with .5 left on the clock, but id rather have a guy that can break down a D, not tkae a desperation look and shot at last second. i think its important for our young front court to play with a PG that will help their confidence and get them involved. i dont see a pg in FA or potential trade right now that can give us that option.

To quote GVC, no it doesn't. Jazz need to keep as much of their $27M available cap space open for deals at the deadline. Teams WILL come calling with some very good offers - either players or draft picks. No one wants to pay the new 1.5-2x luxury tax penalty. And if the Jazz don;t spend up to the floor? IINM, they simply distribute the difference between actual and minimum as a bonus to the players on their roster.

I starting to think a no PG draft is becoming likely. The bigs and wings at the end of the 1st seems like better players. Burks at the point!

Chad Ford Has Always Been Way Off About Predicting Who The Jazz Will Pick. Obviously He Has No Sources Within The Organization And Ends Up Looking Like A Giant Windbag Idiot With All The Time He Wastes Rationalizing Hypothetical Jazz Picks When Reality Proves Him To Be Painfully Misguided. Same Could Be Said For All The Mock Draft Morons. I Respect The Draft Express Guy Though Because He Works Hard And Isn't Afraid To Get In Front Of A Camera Despite Having A Lisp And The Tone Of An Effeminate Male.

The ones that are in line to pay that tax though (Nets, Lakers) could care less about that penalty. Most teams are in good financial shape nowadays.

chad ford isn't the only one who has problems predicting jazz darts. I can almost. never guess correctly. a lot of the time it comes out of left field to me. last time I was right was Kris humourless, so it's often better I'm wrong.

I have zero feel for who they want this year. I'll be surprised with either parking or shabazz at 14. my best guess is that they try to move up for Burke who may be in their price range.

I'd give up anything sans Kanter, Hayward, Favors and next year's pick for Burke.

I'll stick to my original recommendation from 2010. Build every position through the draft but buy a PG via FA.

Who do you have in mind though? Are you willing to give up assets for Bledsoe/Rondo? Or are you willing to over-pay for Teague/Jennings?
