ESPN Secret Draft Big Board

Chad Ford asked every NBA team to rate 48 prospects in the draft on a scale from 0-10 and about half of the times responded. Here are the players the Jazz should care about:

7. C.J. McCollum, PG, Lehigh
Secret NBA Draft Big Board Rating: 75.0

Ford's comments: Along with Oladipo being ranked No. 1, McCollum may be the biggest surprise of our survey. McCollum is ranked as the third-best point guard in my Top 100, but here he comes up ahead of Trey Burke and Michael Carter-Williams by a nose. Like Oladipo, he ranked highly because he's considered a solid, reliable pick. While Carter-Williams and Burke garnered higher votes, they also had lower ones too. McCollum's narrow voting range of 6 to 9 was identical to Bennett's and similar to Oladipo's. He may not have as much upside as others, but he's seen as a safer pick. McCollum's draft night range is 5 to 14.

9. Trey Burke, PG, Michigan
Secret NBA Draft Big Board Rating: 73.1

Ford's comments: This vote shows the split in NBA circles on Burke. While some believe he'll be a star, others think he's going to be just an average player at the next level. Burke has moved off his status as the consensus No. 1 point guard in the draft and is now an eye-of-the-beholder type of player. Burke's range on draft night appears to be 6 to 14.

10. Michael Carter-Williams, PG, Syracuse
Secret NBA Draft Big Board Rating: 69.2

Ford's comments: Carter-Williams has been chasing Burke in the point guard rankings for months, and once again he's right behind Burke. Some teams love him and others think he'll be a bust -- he received an 8 or a 9 from about half the teams in our survey (more than Burke) but also was rated as low as 3 and 4 on other ballots. As one of the most polarizing players on the board, his draft night range appears to be wide as well -- he could go as early as No. 5 or as late as No. 14.

12. Dennis Schroeder, PG, Germany
Secret NBA Draft Big Board Rating: 66.7

Ford's comments: His ranking is a small surprise here. He's just slightly behind Burke and Carter-Williams among point guards and also received a 9 rating from one team. While his workouts have been so-so, his play in the Nike Hoop Summit has clearly moved him into the lottery discussion. Schroeder's range on draft night is 13 to 23.

16. Shane Larkin, PG, Miami
Secret NBA Draft Big Board Rating: 63.3

Ford's comments: Larkin is another player who can be very polarizing. In terms of the ratings from teams, he has one of the largest spreads of anyone on the board -- scoring several 8s and 9s but also several votes in the 3-to-5 range. The issue is size: Some teams just don't like small point guards and Larkin is one of the smallest point guards to come into the draft in the past decade. His range on draft night is likely 14 to 21.

21. Isaiah Canaan, PG, Murray State
Secret NBA Draft Big Board Rating: 59.2

Ford's comments: Canaan has been under the radar for much of the draft process, but this ranking reflects what I've been hearing. In workouts, he's stood out and even outplayed players ranked ahead of him. He could be this year's sleeper. His draft night range is 15 to 30.

If Burke isn't picked by #7, KOL needs to do everything possible to try and trade down for him.

I will be furious if he doesn't get picked till late, and we don't do anything about it

Who's this Canaanite that we speak of?

I think it was Mr. Ford who was rumouring last week that the Jazz loved him.

====================================

Hey OP. Who is ranked 14?

Edit: Never Mind It was a tie with Adams and C-Pope.

The entire list blows away every mock I've seen. Can't wait for Thursday.

Why would anyone pimp Canaan? Just look at the competition he played against. That's total trash. His stats got worse the last year compared to before. He played against ****ty competition and has horribly low assist numbers and turns the ball over hella lot? That doesn't make sense. If he was NBA talent, he'd command double teams on every single possession. And if he was any good, he'd find a way to not only keep the ball but put his teammates in a position to score. Not convinced. His scouting video doesn't look impressive either.

Observations is, first off the first option the Jazz should look at is trading up for McCollum or Burke. Second option is taking Schroeder at #14 and a wing/big at #21. Third option should be taking a big/wing at #14 then Larkin at #21. Last option is if somehow the Jazz don't pick Schroeder at #14 because he wasn't there or if they thought he would fall and didn't, Larkin didn't last to #21, then in this case take the best wing/big available at #14 and take Canaan at #21.

I am not so sure about Larkin at #14 anymore, but would love him at #21.

I would like Canaan if and only if the Jazz didn't take a PG at #14 and Schroeder/Larkin were both gone at #21.

You basically just described Damian Lillard, and how did that turn out?
