Following potential 2013 draftees

- Muscala is getting a lot of love, entering the 1st round.

- Bullock is 31: Are we over-valuing him a bit?

- Goodwin is at 40: Wow.. not a lot of love for him at all.

Wouldn't be surprised to see the Spurs draft Muscala at #28, considering the Spurs, Jazz, and Hawks were the only teams to interview him at the combine.

We are overvaluing Bullock a little bit.

Goodwin at #40 is laughable.

Goodwin blows. Bullock's value is the belief that he translates relatively easily, not that he'll be a star. There is a lot of value in that.

HoopsHype ‏@hoopshype Rumors: Blazers target Tiago Splitter and Nikola Pekovic?
Why is this in the draft thread???

Well, let me tell you why, this is the way Potland operates. When the rest of the world is talking draft, they are talking about restricted free-agents. But don't be fooled. They are not really interested in Tiago or Nikola as second tier RFAs. They are floating this rumour because Minny (#9) drafts just ahead of Potland (#10) and Potland wants to scare Minny into something on draft day or some other way they hope to get an advantage. Its just the way Potland is.

I had the pleasure of being able to sit and listen to Rich Sheubrooks for almost two hours last Friday at a work function. For those that don't know Rich, he's the Jazz' Executive Director of Global Scouting.

Rich was speaking to various leaders in our organization regarding scouting talent and what it takes to be the best. There were a few draft allusions I took from what he and the Jazz look at that I'm keeping in the back of my mind come Thursday.

1. Jazz will not draft a player who is 'selfish'. Rich talked at length about how their are four 'S' that are important in anyone you want in your organization (slow, soft, stupid, selfish). He obviously can't talk about specific prospects, but he mentioned that there was a guy in this draft that everyone agreed had an abundance of talent, but is so selfish that no team really wants him. As soon as I heard this, I couldn't help but think of Bazz. I don't think the team wants him and would pass on him if he comes to #14.

2. Rich also discussed how the world has changed where you have to look beyond your normal borders to acquire new talent. He specifically stated that in this draft, there is one international prospect that everyone is sleeping on who is going to be a great player. I'm not sure who this could be as Gobert, Nogueira, Adetokuobo, maybe even Schroeder fit the bill. What does have me convinced is that one of our two picks will be spent on someone from overseas.

All in all, it may end up amounting to nothing, but he was a wonderful speaker and you really get the sense that the Jazz will only bring in the RKG into the fold vs. a rehash of the Deshawns/Luthers of the world.

Wouldn't be overly surprised. Remember the Nicolas Batum offer from Minnesota? Now Portland is coming back at them. Probably they like Caldwell Pope and want Minny to pick Adams as an insurance. Would neither be surprised if Portland used their capspace to make a lofty offer to set the price for Pekovic. If Minny doesn't match good for Portland too. Their S5 would look much like Denver's. No clear star, but very very talented pieces. Multiple 2nd and 3rd option quality player.

You'd think he has to be referring to Shabazz.

Perhaps more alarming is how few assists Muhammad generated this season, just 27 in nearly 1000 minutes of action. He ranks 78th among the 81 college players in our Top-100 rankings in assists per-40, and 79th in assists per possession. The only non-big men first round picks we found in the past 10 years who averaged fewer assists per possession as a freshman or sophomore are Michael Beasley, Morris Almond, Lazar Hayward, Al Thornton, and that's it. Beasley, Hayward and Thornton played mostly at power forward before being converted to the wing in the NBA. Is Muhammad a selfish player as his poor body language occasionally suggests, or was his role as a finisher in Ben Howland's offensive simply not conducive to generating assists?

Morris Almond redux? You have to hope the Jazz learned from their mistake with Almond.

Thanks for sharing. + rep.

FWIW, the overseas player that stands out to me is Giannis. He's a 19 year-old who is 6'9", can play multiple positions, and can do just about everything. But I wouldn't think he's being slept on altogether.

Edit: There's also Karasev who looks a bit like a young Chris Mullin.

Does anybody else think it's weird that Karasev got an invite to the green room? Maybe the 13th pick by Dallas for another team?

Kevin (WV)
I still say Archie Goodwin slips into the bottom of the first! Are you saying there is no chance?

Chad Ford
Not saying that. In fact, personally, I think teams drafting from 15 on are crazy not to roll the dice with younger players like Ricky Ledo, Antetoukounmpo, Tony Mitchell and Goodwin. Their sin is that they are in the draft too early. But upside is so much higher than so many players int he draft. Could they bust? Sure. But I might be willing to gamble given what I'd lose is a solid rotation player.

So the Green Room invitees are....

Noel, Oladipo, Porter, McLemore, Len, Bennett, Burke, Carter-Williams, McCollum, Zeller, Caldwell-Pope, Adams and Karasev.

I would be very interested to see who the next invitees are, as one of them would be Utah's projected pick.

For those who want Schroeder or Shabazz, both are likely there at 14.

Brace yourself in case it's Olynyk.
