Let her play golf

I consider it a birth defect, because the physical sex does not match the gender identity I was born with. The defect is in that mismatch. It has nothing to do with how the body part functions.

I'm normally a lurker on these boards, but every once in a while something gets me.

I used to live in SF and thoroughly enjoyed it. There was so much diversity in that 7x7 mile area! that being said, I had the opportunity to work with so many different people while I was there and it completely opened my eyes to so many issues I had never before thought of. I was always very careful how I interacted on a daily basis with the people I not only worked with, but also the people in my community.

My aim is not to offend you, Katie, but from my lurking it appears that you are continually looking for a fight with most of your comments. This is not the first time you've done this and certainly won't be the last. It's been my experience as a moderator on other forums that within the first couple of posts, it's easily visible who is and who isn't a trouble maker. No matter how many warnings, the result is always the same.

The fact is, you're physically a male human being. The physical deformity you elude to would and is not considered as such in the medical field, unless there is something you're not telling us. I understand that you "feel" like you are a female. I can respect that, but again, the fact is, you are not deformed physically in the medical sense. It doesn't matter how much I feel like I'm a rock god and the greatest guitar player that ever lived, the fact is, I'm not. It doesn't matter that my youngest daughter thinks she's Miley Cyrus, she's not.

I had the opportunity to work with many trans gender folks out in SF. I've pretty much seen all walks of life out there and in one particular case, I had the opportunity to work with a 6'5" trans gender female. She was huge. She used to be a man. Her biceps, calves, shoulders etc were enormous. How fair would it be for her to compete with other women athletes in say basketball? Or how about wrestling? Perhaps baseball? You see what I'm getting at? I think this absolutely has to do with the advantages and disadvantages related to trans gender.

In my opinion each case should be looked at individually, however, you cannot change the genetic makeup of your chromosomes regardless of the hormone therapy, plastic surgery and diet involved in changing your gender and looks. Underneath it all, you'll still have the makings of what you were born with.

In short, get off your damn high horse. Quit playing the ****ing victim and get over yourself.

First I have no need to try to convert you to any side. Second I'm not familiar with King Norton, and don't feel like reading about him tonight. If I decide to read about him later, I may or may not come back to this.

The fact remains that I know who I am. Nobody else knows what goes on inside me. I am going to live my life as authentically as possible. I don't need to defend my identity to anyone.

Then why do you? I don't think anyone is questioning who you are or what goes on inside you (maybe I'm wrong?). You put something out there for everyone and now you're putting up your defenses on an internet message board, KNOWING, that the results would be EXACTLY what they are.

Careful fella. I said basically the same exact thing and got negative rep from Kicky. I guess it's only cool to voice your opinion around here when you are on the side of certain people.

Is it not called "gender identity disorder"? To me this is cleary refering to a mental issue not a physical one.

Then you're way on the extreme edge. Rand Paul already learned this lesson with respect to the public accomodations law this election season.

Irrelevant and assumptive.

In any event, we've already seen what America looks like when "free association" is taken that far. It's ugly, mean, and for a sizable chunk of the population not particularly free.

You're obviously inferring this correlation is causation. Society is more accepting today in spite of these laws, not because of them. The laws grew out of greater acceptance and not the other way around.

Your position is consistently anti-feudalism. You patronize those you see as disadvantaged and in need of higher help. I see the world quite differently. The downside to your argument is a lack of focus on individual achievement and effort. Ben Franklin wrote

'Pray Father Abraham what think you of the times? Will not these heavy taxes quite ruin the country? How shall we ever be able to pay them?

'"Friends" said he "the taxes are indeed very heavy, and, if those laid on by the government were the only ones we had to pay, we might more easily discharge them; but we have many others and much more grievous to some of us. We are taxed twice as much by our idleness, three times as much by our pride, and four times as much by our folly; and from these taxes the commissioners cannot ease or deliver us, by allowing an abatement. However let us hearken to good advice, and something may be done for us; God helps them that help themselves, as Poor Richard says.'

The individual and the collective can overcome adversity by internalizing this simple advice. We don't necessarily need government interference to overcome obstacles. We've seen time and again in American history ethnic groups overcome disadvantages by building up their own society, which later integrated. Irish Catholics were heavily discriminated against by the various reformed churches. They took matters into their own hands and built in the face of this adversity. The Asian persuasions are well known to overcome. Jews have a great track record of achievement all over the world. They're still hated by many in some South American nations because they excelled.

Forcing acceptance also creates hard feelings and makes matters worse. People entrench when they feel threatened. I find it easier to persuade others into acceptance. This is a tough pill for those who are discriminated against to swallow. Why should they have to prove anything? Regardless of the difficulty, it is the higher road and better route.

You can consider this view fringe if you want. The difference between my position and that of a hard-core libertarian is mine doesn't come from rigid ideology. I understand there comes a time when feudal forces work against a group too strongly. I don't see society at this point today, so a first-best solution should be sought. Second-best laws are not solutions. They're false foundations. Genuine acceptance through first-best improvements are integrated internally and lasting.

Perhaps, but where do you draw the line? For example, I've got a friend who suffers from clinical depression. It's not because that person is just "sad" and can snap out of it by simply trying harder to have a good attitude, it's because there's a chemical balance in the brain. It's mental, perhaps, but it's also physical. And drugs which affect the brain cells *physically*, such as "selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_serotonin_reuptake_inhibitor, are substantially helping.

Maybe that doesn't exactly apply to katie's situation here, but I'm always wary when people try to completely separate mental issues from physical ones.

anyhow, what is it with golf? wasn't there a golfer a couple years ago who was suing to be able to use his golf cart in a tournament because he had some disability that made walking difficult, but the PGA or whatever it is said that the cart would give him an unfair advantage? it doesn't seem that we hear about these sorts of issues coming up with other activities.

Have you ever walked 18 in the middle of the day?

She was born with a male sex organ. That is the physical birth defect. It is how I view my body as well.

Link?

I read an article from two year's ago stating she wouldn't reveal her former identity as that person was dead to her. Nor would she provide an original birth certificate.

I'm not being argumentative but I see you make claims that have no links/evidence. Just saying.

Given the topic at hand, I think you meant Ru Paul.
