Thats 11 players! Assuming Neto and Rudy come over this year.

I'd assume Foye and Junkyard Dog will be back. Now were at 13.

Add in Tomic and were at 14!

Crazy.

Tomic isn't coming over...EVER.
Neto is an unknown. I say not until next season.

Foye? Hell no!!!

And given that Tinsley texted Burke welcoming him to the team, I'd say Jamaal is a lock for the 3rd PG slot and mentor to Trey. I predict the Jazz also find another PG to split time with Trey. McNeil isn't the answer.

Tomic is playing great lately. He could be a very good big for us. But I doubt he wants to come over as he is becoming a star and making good money where he is now.

Tomic coming back would change our bench completely, IMO. And we now have the playmaker(s) (!!!!!!!) to run plays with him.

Sounds ****ing weird saying that guys. Don't think it'll ever get old :)

His buyout is way to big, and IINM, the Jazz could only contribute $500K or something like that. Tomic essentially sealed his fate when he signed his contract. Jazz have moved on by drafting Gobert.

We have to spend about 20 million dollars right now to be at the min. Its around 50 million I think this year. We are close to 30 million.

We have to spend some money. Most likely a veteran PG, big man, and veteran SF to fill the cap room. Combine for about 15 million total. Than the rest can be small contracts that add up to 5-10 million.

Call me crazy, but, I think we 'spend' that 20 million on guys like Andris Biedrins and Richard Jefferson. (getting a good amount of compensation for doing so)

No, they don't. Jazz don't have to spend another dime. If they're under the minimum at season's end, the difference is paid to the players on the roster as a bonus. Trust me, the Jazz' plan, which KOC has been talking about for 2+ years (and which Lindsey has been very open about) is to have plenty of cap space available at the deadline. They believe some real bargains will be offered as teams scramble to get under the punitive 1.5-2X luxury tax. Utah is in perfect position to start a bidding war and demand a fortune. Essentially, taking on a $10M player at the deadline could save a team up to $25M (the remaining salary for 2014 + the 2x tax penalty). That's the kind of salary relief that could fetch not only a very good player, but also a lottery pick. We'll have around $25M for those types of deals, depending on how the Jazz fill out the roster.

And this is why KOC/Lindsey did NOT trade Jefferson or Millsap at the deadline. The cap space was much more important than getting back players who had multiple years left on their contracts. The Jazz FO is counting on hitting home runs, not just filling the roster with more players like Marvin Williams. And the closer owners get to paying that tax, especially for teams that had expected to contend and fall short, the more desperate the instructions will be to save money. Look at what happened to Utah with the Harpring/Maynor deal. And that was when the tax penalty was just dollar for dollar. Many teams will be facing the bigger penalties.

You are correct. Wow I had no idea the new CBA changed this. No more minimums. That is awesome!!!! I had to look it up.

Locke said that Murphy is gone. It was something like a team option on year 2 and they were not impressed so he's gone.

He was just a 2nd round pick. So it's not like he was supposed to pan out or something. You don't become an NBA Champion by filling your team with 2nd round picks. You win with lottery picks or by signing great players. Oklahoma City made it to the Finals by simply filling their team with lottery picks. Miami has won two straight championships because they signed all-stars. We are going to get there by building a young, uber-talented team into a juggernaut. That is what we need to do as a small-market team. The San Antonio Spurs really are the only exception to the rule. They are now what the Jazz were in the 90's.

So if no Murphy it would be:

Burke, McNeil, Neto
Burks,Foye,Hayward,Neto
Hayward, Carroll, Williams
Kanter, Evans
Favors, Gobert

That is 12 players. Add maybe a 3rd string C?
