Another Trade with Minnesota?

They're trying to trade Luke Ridnour and/or J.J. Barea to clear one of their $4 million-plus salaries and will waive backup center Greg Stiemsma before his $2.5 million contract becomes guaranteed for next season.

I would totally be onboard with Utah taking for Ridnour and Stiemsma, especially if Minnesota is just trying to clear cap space. Utah could trade the rights Peter Fehse! I might even consider Ante Tomic, especially if it looks less and less likely that he'll ever come to the NBA. Maybe just cash would do it? Ridnour is a feisty, tough as nails PG who could start or come off the bench (wouldn't demand to start over Burke like Mo Williams). Ridnour could just warm up Burke's spot until Trey is ready and also play alongside him, as Luke played a lot of 2-guard last season because of Minnesota's injuries. Stiemsma is a very reasonable back-up center. salary and production-wise (4 points, 3 rebounds, 1 block in 15 minutes per for 6'11"/ 250lbs. and $2.5m). He won't take starter minutes away from Kanter or Favors, but could back either up. Both are free agents after the '13-14 season, so it does not hinder Jazz future cap fexibility. If Minnesota is willing to play ball, this deal would be a no brainer for me.

A guy like Ridnour would be an ideal backup to Burke. He is use to the placeholder beside a young talented PG role.

I was looking at this earlier today. Glad you posted. I am all for it.

I only want Luke Ridnour though. Would be a great Veteran. I would trade for cash. I think a 2nd round pick would be too much unless its like protected for the first 12 picks in that round.

The only issue though why didn't we originally ask for Like Ridnour in the draft day trade?????

I wonder if they already asked the Jazz to take him and they said No? Or maybe asked but only with J.J.?

Maybe it has something to do with Andre turning down that extension.

I think we should grab Barea. Make that one less annoying rat the Jazz will have to deal with. He's averaged around 20 minutes his whole career so I don't think he'd have a problem backing Trey.

edit: perhaps they're trying to go after Andre Iguodala?

WOW I didn't even think of that. Iggy could easily go to the Wolves. That would make Love happy. But not sure how willing Iggy would go. I Gerald Wallace go 40 million over 4 years Iggy will probably get more.

Great point.

I think Maynor would be a better and cheaper option as a backup PG too.. may be they're just gonna explore the different options first.

I REALLY hope we take Barea. He averaged 11.3 PPG, 4.0 APG, 2.8 RPG in 23.1 minutes. Possibly the type of minutes he'd get sooner or later. He's super pesky too. Someone I'd want on my side.

I always wanted the jazz to get him when we had Deron instead of Price. He wouldn't look to start, even if he did start at first, I don't think he'd end the season starting, and he'd be a good vet mentor to Trey. By far the best backup pg the jazz ever had if it were to happen.

Agree. Barea is only making $4.5M. Certainly reasonable for a veteran PG. He didn't start last season but certainly could if Burke isn't ready on Day 1 or if the Jazz want to go a bit slower with Trey. It's a trade to help Minny dump salary, so a future 2nd is the best we offer in the deal. Didn't Ridnour primarily play SG last season? I know he averaged 30 mins/per. I guess we could always go with him as a combo guard. Then we could forgo re-signing Foye.

I don't like Barea, he uses spiteful tatics to get under your skin; running into Hayward before a free throw, getting in Favors way, etc. But if he was on our team then we wouldnt have to deal with him, he could be a good back-up. I mostly want a pg that can show Burkes the ropes, a quality guy.

Wouldn't it be cool if Barea could instill a little bit of annoying mexican tricks into Burke?

Agreed.

If you want to instill some Mexican into Burke, the Jazz are better off keeping Earl Watson (whose maternal grandparents are from Mexico...). Barea is Puerto Rican.
