Missed Opportunities

Reasons to hate the trade.
1. OJ Mayo gone
2. Omer Asik about to be gone.
3. Jose Calderon gone
4. Chris Copeland gone

This is just day one and because we wasted all of our cap space on two guys who suck donkey balls and one guy whose had 3 ACL surgeries. All year long we are going to miss opportunities in order to get 2 first round picks that will likely be in the mid 20s. I really hate this trade. Lindsey panicked.

What would signing Mayo, Calderon, Copeland and trading for Asik accomplish for the Jazz?

Mayo was overpaid, we don't need Asik as Corbin would start him over Favors and Kanter, Calderon would have started over Burke and that is a no bueno, and we don't need two dreads in Utah plus I would rather have Carroll anyway.

I do wonder if they could have gotten a better trade for their cap space, but at the same time it is better then them signing players to bad long term contracts just to have them. It gives them another year to find the FA or draftees that can push this team up to an elite level.

Every single one of those 4 reasons you just listed is a plus to this trade as far as I am concerned. This trade gives us almost exactly what we wanted when it comes to giving the young guys time. This is a great trade. Only thing that makes this trade better is getting Barns, but that prob wasn't on the table

Yeah, let's get players Corbin would start over our Core-5 instead of getting role players solidifying the young-ins start.

Darkwing: Me personally I think any one of those 4 players would be nice to have. However, if I had to pick one I would have picked Asik. I think he and Kanter are friends. I think Asik is a great defender and good rebounder. I think his offense is improving and I think he would have been a great third big. We can't get him because we have three complete trash players now.

If Jefferson and Biedrins come off the bench as they should, then it should be fine. Now if Corbin did that, and the FO allowed it, then I would lose all faith in the direction of this team.

Ben10 I love how you just assume that the three losers we picked up today wont play. i have no faith that will be the case. Regardless if you could add real good players you should. Now we can't. Mind you this is just day 1. Numerous additional opportunities are going to be available between now and the trade deadline and we just pissed them away for nothing.

The irony of this post is it comes from somebody named "oldtimer". Dude, I'm sorry to come at you personally, but your logic belongs to an 11 year old.

I'm not sure if you started watching the NBA a few months ago or what, but you don't seem to understand how a successful team is structured. The absolute worst thing you can do is place your franchise in NBA purgatory. This is where you are bad - but more like bottom 12 bad as opposed to bottom 6 bag - and you have mediocore players signed to large, long term contracts.

And ZoMG this is exactly what you are suggesting here!

OJ Mayo and Omer Asik get you.... kind of a Milwaukee Bucks of the West squad at best. That's hot garbage. What you do when you are in the Jazz's position is look 2-3 seasons out, and they have done this brilliantly. They are going into the stacked 2014 draft with tons of picks, money and young talent. It's awesome.

Asik has 2 more years on his contract with a guarenteed $15 million on the last year. No way do I want that contract for a guy with limited offense. Lindsey did the right thing by only taking on expiring contracts

Certainly a not seeing the forest for the trees response.

Like it or not we are tanking this season. How do those players help in that regard? This was a good deal for the Jazz.

Scram: why is it when somebody raises an argument people don't like they call them an 11 year old. Does that make you feel superior in some way? Most likely I've been a jazz fan longer than you have been alive. Can't I legitimately hate this trade? I believe time will prove that the Jazz made a huge mistake because other opportunities will be available that we missed out on because of this ridiculous trade. I think its bad to get rid of 24 million dollars in cap space for what will most likely be picks in the mid 20's.

To continue, the Jazz have to spend the money, anyway. The likelihood of getting an unprotected '14 pick is extremely low. Warriors are walking a thin line with players with questionable health history.

And the Jazz will be in the exact same position next year, and gained two unprotected draft picks in the process. In the position the Jazz are in, that's the better asset to have than a productive third big getting paid starter money.

I hope that Rush does play, He is a carrier 41% 3 point shooter and a very good defender. He fills a need that the FO was looking for in a wing defender that can shoot. As for the other 2 I see them both getting some time of the bench but they aren't part of the teams long term plans. Plus we got picks all for giving up Kevin Murphy.

What you don't seem to understand is that all the guys you listed there are 3rd to 4th tier players that well never lead there teams to a championship level. Plus if we signed any of them we are stuck with there contracts after this year when we start need that money to sign the young guys. Look ahead.

You've only made reference so far to middling to average players. Those aren't really opportunities. Having a chance to get an average player is Tuesday in the NBA.
