What's new

Summer League (overall)

So you want to withhold judgement on Burke while you speak a sentence on KCP after 1 game? For my part I thought KCP was solid, his attempt weren't just falling and he had some ill-advised shots that looked bad. But it's not like he'll get a lot of attempt in Detroit anyways to jack up shots like he can in SL when he's the 2nd option behind Drummond.
I have an agenda.. what can I say?

1 hour till the tip off...Magic v Thunder

Maybe one of the most interesting matchups will feature Oladipo who plays surprisingly Point Guard and Dwight Buycks who had one of the best showings yesterday with 13 dimes.
How will they match up?
What's Adams performance gonna look like? He got either applauded or criticized a lot on this board. A lot of former 1st round picks on both teams. Can they outplay their competition?

Oladipo isn't putting up the great of numbers. Just saying.
It doesn't really surprise me. Oladipo is a good player, but he'll be at his best as a low usage super role player not as a team centerpiece. Odd role for him on the SL team.

MCW looks much better than yesterday on offense. But doesn't get handled any longer by Patrick Beverly who was really pesky. He still doesn't show the new parts of his game that he talked about in interviews, but at least he's given space to operate to his strengths

Interesting players today:

MCW:
4/19 FG, -20, 2 reb, 7 assists, 2 steals, 13 points, 0 TO
Mason Plumlee:
6/12 FG, +13, 13 reb, 1 assist, 1 steal, 14 points, 3 TO
Oladipo:
2/12 FG, -6, 3 reb, 5 assist, 2 steal, 12 points, 3 TO

Oladipo got very much outplayed by Dwight Buycks. Buycks won the game in the end scoring on 2 crucial possessions and assisting on another. Oladipo got attacked more aggressively and looked way more uncomfortable with the rock in his hands, struggling to move and get his game going off the dribble. He trapped himself too often picking the ball up. But when he got into a lane he looked good.

mcw shoots teh ball a lot and misses a lot

he reminds me of burks without the ability to put touch and english on the ball around the rim

wish burks handle was as tight and strong as mcws though

Watching the Boston/Pistons game. Two thoughts:

1) Phil Pressey is pretty damn good. He's running the offense well, playing good defense, fighting around screens.

2) Boston's offense, as a whole, looks really tight. This is what happens when you have an actual coach who knows his ****, instead of the Corbin/Lowe tandem.

If they're trying to turn Oladipo into a PG, he's bound to struggle initially. Not comparing him to Burks in any way, but Alec has worked on his ball handling skills for a couple of seasons, and just now might be ready to be a backup PG.

I always liked Pressey.

I doubt that. They can't risk waiting four years for him to develop the courtvision and handle. And even then the chance is higher he won't be comfortable. I'd rather guess they had other guys planned for PG but those bailed. But if you wanna try sth, Summerleague is the place...

If I was ref I'd call carrying on MCW so often. His handle is so high and insecure. He even carries when none pressures at times. But one of the more interesting players to watch in terms of development short and long term.

Another bad day for Caldwell Pope (and feather in PKM's hat). For those still feeling ill about Burke:

Derrick Rose's first summer league stats:
2 games played (29mpg) :
9.5 ppg 5.5 apg 4 rpg 4 turnovers per game on 29% shooting, 0% from 3pt land and 64% from the ft% line.

Think he got injured in the second game and didn't return after that.

He had knee tendinitis. Was forced to a break after that. Practiced too hard b4 summer league.

FYI, I was on the Olynyk train. Not at 9 though. But at 12-14 range most def. Look it up. Proves me a genius.
