McCollum vs Burke vs Schroeder

Awesome college mix vid always = awesome NBA superstar. Woot.

Idk, does this make everyone feel better?

Does it now? No. Did it when Charlotte fans needed reassurance when Morrison was a rookie? Probably. Great, you made an analogy. So what. Live in the moment.

I agree that Burke's selection kind of gave the front office their final okay to go forward with the full on youth movement. I think they saw the fans enthusiastic reaction and realized that the heart strings so to speak of the fanbase had turned in full force toward the youth movement. No longer could they consider a 1-2 year deal for an above average PG to take minutes from their new PG, like they could if it was Schroeder who I still believe will end up being the best of this class... but I digress.

I think Millsap became the only player who had a realistic chance of coming back... but only at our price.

I am glad we are going young and am okay with Burke I just have serious reservations that he will be anything more than a serviceable PG because of his athleticism, and I wonder if McCollum could have been a better choice.

But, at the end of the day I think we all need to remember that this draft was really weak... it just was! So, if we remember that... all of these guys drafted 9-17 would usually have been drafted 15-22... which is usually a crap shoot anyway. So, if Burke becomes a serviceable starting PG I guess that is actually pretty good considering he would have likely been picked 14-17 in most drafts.

In the 2011 draft Knight went #8, Walker went #9, Jimmer #10... in past drafts DJ Augustine went #9... so its not like because he looks like a less athletic CP3 that we should really expect him to be CP3... Maybe we should be lowering our expectations to something between Kemba Walker and Damion Lillard.

Also, at the end of the day if we are in love with Burks, Hayward and Kanter/Favors the only way to keep all 5 is to have Burke be an average to above average PG... someone who will sign an extension in the 7-8Million per year range. Otherwise we are bound to lose one of the original core.

I think Burke will end up somewhere between Jameer Nelson and Chris Paul in terms of style and impact. That's a good player.

I think they saw the writing on the wall before the draft. They have probably noticed a good amount of sales from the jerseys on the team coming from the youth.
Read the message boards, tweets, and commentary out there. It was pretty clear where the fanbase was at. I don't think that the Trey Burke reaction
surprised them. They've had a plan in place for sometime.

Schroeder's defensive potential is ridiculous, CJ and Burke will always be offensive players

this is why i wanted us to go after Schroeder as a backup and a Free Agent (offensive) PG, to run the show

I LOVE that DL (Lindsey) already has an out for the Burke pick. After announcing the pick DL made a point to say that Corbin was the one really pushing for Burke and that Corbin really liked him as a player.

Sounds like Corbin just signed his own firing paperwork on that one.

Just an FYI, I think Utah should try hard to trade for Schroeder. He looked a million times more composed than Burke did even in Burke's best game.

Also, Schroeder seemed to set up his teammates. Much better than anything I saw out of Burke with the exception of the few times that Burke drove down the lane and handed the ball off to Gobert or Evans for easy dunks.

GO GET SCHROEDER!!

Im thinking he will be Jeff Teague.

Jeff Teague has better defensive potential (ridiculous wingspan), and Burke has better playmaking/leadership.

It's quite hard to pin an exact NBA comparison to Trey.

I swear it's like you're purposefully trying to call Burke a bust for some quasi-reverse karma voodooism.

Draft night was happy sad when we took Burke with the news flashed on screen that the 9th pick of Burke was for us with those guys still on the table. I told my brother, IBProfane that I was very happy to have Burke because I thought he could contribute right away more than Schroeder, but that I thought Schroeder would have a better career once he came into his own. Also said that McCollum would have been a great fit for us because Alec and Gordon are good distributors, certain his scoring would translate. Now I feel like I was wrong that Burke could contribute the most on all fronts right away. Hopefully my current concerns are dispelled.

I mostly agree with this. I was immediately disgusted with the pick. I did think that Burke was the most NBA ready of the three (it looking like I was really wrong) but I wanted Utah to grab upside.

Upside was Schroeder. I was also happy with the reports that Utah was targeting McCollum if they moved up in the draft. I was fine with either pick but Burke or MCW were the two PGs that I wanted Utah to avoid.

I'm holding out hope that Burke will improve but I think by mid season it will be obvious who Utah should have picked instead of Burke.
