Summer League (overall)

I'm still a believer in Rivers. He could become a Reddick type player.

What??

Only similarities I see is they both went to the school with the most tradition in all the ncaa.

Srs tho, I don't see it at all.

I don't think his height had anything to do with it. It seems to me that he has psyched himself out. Hope he gets over it because if he had the jitters at summer league he's going to crap himself on opening night at energy solutions.

Jazz have a Pre-season game in Boise against Portlant. Lillard ought to be a good 'Welcome to the NBA' for Burke.

The similarities I see..

Huge motors.. run and run and run and tire their defenders. Can shoot it and hit clutch shots.
Have you seen him in summer league? He's hitting shots and added 7rbs and 6asts while being guarded by Shumpert.
I guess what I meant to say is when I thought of his upside it reminds me of Reddick, if that makes sense.

McCollum looks like a guy that's going to be able to get 20 pts. in this league. We have that already with Burks .

The two key differences being that McCollum can shoot from distance and Burks has yet to show that. And Burks is taller and theoretically able to gaurd bigger pgs and sgs. We shall see.

I wasn't disagreeing with you seeing something in rivers, just the redick comp.
I see him as an instant offense type guy off the bench, not someone who would excel in a system like reddick. More of a freelance guy.

Just finished rewatching the PHX-Portland game from last night-

CJ McCollum got most of his looks off pick and rolls where the big drifted back. He also beat Archie Goodwin several times by getting him leaning the wrong way. After that Kendall Marshall applied pressure and PHX bigs blitzed the pick and roll. McCollum struggled with that. He couldn't get shots and turned the ball over.

McCollum looks good when he has space to attack or a pick to set him free. But if you have a smart, tough guard to defend him he takes bad shots and turns it over.

Credit to him for finishing the looks he got but Burke definitely looked more aware of how to move the ball to set people up.

So that might be the book on him. You have to blitz him on picks and he will struggle.

Austin Rivers was hot garbage his rookie year, posting one of the worst PERs ever and is lighting up summer league.

What do we take from all this.

That Rivers is able to perform decently against fringe NBA players. Salim Stoudamire won MVP of a summer league a few years back.

Could we be looking at something similar with Rivers?

So we can't count on Jeremy Evans to be an all-star based on his SL play?

I still think there is hope for Austin Rivers in that OJ Mayo type role? He still has to improve that shooting of course... Plus he has "clutch genes" that most NBA players lack... so there's still hope.
