Following potential 2014 draftees

Julius Randle being similar to Lamar would definitely not be too bad. Yeah he isn't a franchise player, but I think people forget the type of production he used to put up. 17/8/5? Not very many players in the NBA who can do that right now.

I think Randle could better in the paint though-- and allow him for easier scoring. But is his passing as good as a young Lamar's?

Interesting comp

Randle is stronger and is as mentally tough as they come. I'm not ready to pass judgment on his passing yet, either way.
I think he will be better than Lamar ever was.

I should clarify.. Randle is a well respected passer.. I would just like to see a bit more. Jerry Meyer (Rivals lead national recruiting analyst lists Randle the best passing big man in this stacked class.

Randle returned from injury (having not played for several months and full of rust) to play in the state tournament where he scored 74pts in the final two games (he played the last 3 games of the season and averaged 35+pts and 17+rbs). He could be our future SF/PF with the #3 pick.

You reckon we'll get more fans if Jabari (aka king the or Mormons) is a coming out and we have a chance at getting him?
Yes. It will be epicly nauseating too!!!!!

My sources tell me there's discussion over updating the temple theme if Jabari gets drafted by Utah. There are what, 170 temples either in operation or announced/under construction. And each is topped by an Angel Moroni statue. That them has been done to death! The new design would have Jabari, arm outstretched as if to dunk, a golden basketball replacing Moroni's iconic trumpet. It's a PR dream! Few outside the Mormon faith even know who Moroni was, but the NBA is a global brand. Hundreds of millions of people will soon know who Jabari is (if they don't already) - and the Mormons can reach out to the pre-teen and teen demographic, the age in which young people generally start questioning religious beliefs.

His does he compare to Royce White?

And just my 2 cents re: this thread in general. I consider myself a casual college basketball fan now. I used to watch more, but my daughter's various activities now take up a lot of my Saturdays. I'll watch a few games now and then during the year if there are compelling match-ups. And I'll watch a lot of games during March Madness. The past few years my interest has increased due to the Jazz having high picks. This year I will probably watch more college basketball than I have in a long time. Yes, I'm excited to see Wiggins and Parker play, but I don't think the Jazz have a realistic shot at either, so I'm especially interested in games featuring players projected to go in the 5-10 range, which is where I think the Jazz will end up.

I honestly do think we have a shot at Wiggins/Jabari.

-We might be the youngest/most inexperienced team in the league.

-We might have the worst coach in the league.

-We might have the worst bench in the league.

Just imagine what would happen if one of the C5 got injured. Who replaces them in the starting lineup? Like, say Kanter gets hurt. Suddenly you're playing Biendrins and Gobert MAJOR minutes. You're not going to win any games in the NBA with a lineup like that.

I think it's a very reasonable possibility that the Jazz could have a bottom 5 record in the league. And when you have a record that bad, you can get your hopes up on winning the lottery.

Yes, there is that caveat. An injury would be devastating, just as it was when the Jazz lost AK and Boozer in 2004 en route to a 26-56 record. As for the hope in getting Wiggins or Parker, if the Jazz finish 5th, there's an 18% chance they get the 1 or 2 pick; 4th position gives them a 24% shot. Far more likely they slide down than up. Even finishing with the 2nd-worst record still results in a whopping 61% chance they end up 3rd or worse. And, if all goes "well" and the Jazz were to finish with the WORST record in the NBA: they only have a 25% chance at staying there and a 21.5% chance of dropping to #2. It's far more likely (53.5%) they wind up with the 3rd or 4th pick.

Absolutely. We are going to be at least one of the top 9 teams that has the best chance for him in the lottery.
We'll have a decent shot at landing a superstar next year, and that is exciting.

and If we fail on our ultimate prize there will be a good starter waiting for us to wipe away the tears.

Agree with that. I think any pick in the top-7 will land a potential star, providing players like Jabari and the Harrison brothers decide to enter the draft.

I also agree we have a shot at Wiggins/Parker. We won't be the worst team in the league, but we should be bottom 5-6. That gets us in the hunt to get lucky on lotto night. Should we fall out of the top 2/3, bear in mind that we should also have 1 (or 2) other first round picks, $30M(ish) in cap room and a slew of young talent to trade away if we wanted to aggressively try to move into the top 3.

We've been acquiring assets like none other and I think it might be with the intention of making a very enticing offer to a team in the top 3, if our pick doesn't already net us that.
