Is Jazz that bad?

Are you really seeing jazz to acquire a top-5 pick?
I am not sure about that.we are not much worse than last year.kanter favors burke rush jefferson hayward etc. they are not that bad.

However, I am not seeing other teams like n.o. , portland , pistons, bobcats that bad either.

I don't believe the Jazz are going to deliberately tank the season by sitting starters, etc. but they have definitely gone all in on the young core which given the lack of depth on the bench will likely lead to a high lottery pick.

I love Jazz personally. It's so diverse, and all-encompassing, that you'll rarely find two people who define it the same way.

Shorter, Davis, Ellington, Coltrane-- even the up-and-comers like Trombone Shorty and Robert Glasper are all studs

I am big fan of Ellington.

Unless they win the lottery I really don't. I do see them landing a top 10 pick. They do so thru some combination of the millions assets they landed in the last week.

no dizzie? or theloneous? (as much as his playing can turn into incoherent garbage at times, he was still a pioneer)

Lucas
Burks
Jefferson
Evans
Gobert Biedrins

Yikes!

As good as the starting line looks, that's how bad the bench looks. That lineup will not score much. That lineups only chance is if they play great team defense.

wow... haha. hadn't looked at this until now. Burks is the only one who can score in that lineup.

Alrighhtt, we can throw in Monk, Mingus, and Dizzie. I spose The Herb should be here too.

Far too many good Jazz musicians, obvs

If Trey can step and be a starting caliber PG, I see the ceiling for this team at about 40 wins - if not I can see the floor at about 28-32 wins. In other words, definitely not a playoff team; but probably not a bottom feeder either.

I think November is going to be very, very ugly for this team. Like 3-12 ugly.

Biendrins and Jefferson will play better on the Jazz, Evans has shown that he actually can shoot a jump shot now, we are all excited for Gobert, Burks will help out at point which offsets Lucas. Playoff teams usually rotate as little as nine players so the tenth through thirteenth guy don't matter much.

Why will Biendrins and Jefferson play better? Because the Jazz are Not tankers while Golden State was. I imagine that Golden State held them back for the purpose of getting -wait for it- the seventh pick. (can you imagine?). You take a former all star who is used to winning (in San Antonio no less) and tell him that they are trying to lose, it's hard to keep coming to work every day. And take a foreign guy who is already uncomfortable in America and further alienate him by not playing him because playing him might help the team win, and what do you have? Unmotivated players. They come to the Jazz and I guarantee that the team told them that they are going to try to win games, I believe that their game will get better.

And that's all we need to get to nine quality players, which is all we need to get to the playoffs.

Let's take a look at this. The average NBA team wins 41.6% of their road games and wins 58.4% of their home games (duh). That means that the average team goes 24-17 at home and 17 and 24 on the road for a 41-41 record. NOW, how many games will Corbin cost us due to coaching mistakes? I can think of three games each of the past two years (and it is probably higher, but I don't want to spend a lot of time on this). That drops Utah's record down to 38-44. Now, you figure there will be 5 games on the road that a rookie pg in Burke will outright blow, due to turnovers, poor clock management, etc (hey, he is a rookie). That drops Utah down to 33-49.

Now, Favors has had a lot of foul trouble. Let's say he outright fouls out of 5 games, and Utah loses 2 of those. 31-49.

Utah has no "go-to" guy. Utah has 10 games where there are buzzer beaters. They lose 2 of those. 29-51.

Utah has a horrible bench. Costs us two more games. 27-53.

Can you see where this is going? This is a young team, with no leadership (hopefully that will come this year), no go to guy, they haven't been able to show they will stay out of foul trouble, they don't have late game experience, they don't have a bench, etc.

This will be a fun team to watch, but they will lose a lot at first. Hopefully by the end of the year, they start to win some games.

We may have the worst bench of any team all time. Even with that bench and a potentially good starting unit we will struggle

Compare the roster of teh 2012-13 Bobcats to ours this year

Utah
Burke
Burks
Hayward
Favors
Kanter
Lucas III
Rush
Biendris
Jefferson
Evans
Gobert
McNeal

Bobcats
Walker
Gordon
MKG
Henderson
Mullens
T. Thomas
Biyombo
Diop
Haywood
Adrien
McRoberts
Sessions
Pargo
Taylor
Williams

They play in the East, we play in the West (Better Division) - I honestly don't see us breaking 30 wins!

We have a solid starting five (at least average because they still need some time to grow together) but our bench sucks. Not much scoring, injured/veteran players...
