I know Pitino quite well.. and I lived two doors down from him at Harbourside Condominiums. One time.. once he had become the coach at Louisville, we were on the elevator after UK spanked UL and I said, "Nice try coach." (I had called him coach for many years)
He looked at me, no change in expression, and said, "Call me Rick."
I thought that was awesome... that he was a little pissed.
I can feel the sexual tension like I was in the elevator.
Being a one-and-done doesn't hurt the team's GPA (NCAA standards) so long as the player finishes out their school year. A lot of teams (UConn, for one) have gotten into trouble because the player, knowing they were going pro, hung up the classes and moved on.
Calipari is very frank with these kids that they MUST (with honor) agree to finish strong in the classroom, as to not hurt the team.
UK is the capital of one and dones... and Orton is the ONLY one, ever, to bail and make us take a hit to the GPA. Cal and fans were PISSED.
Don't you have another sexy elevator story? Where you were naked in the hallway at a hotel or sth? Or is this the same story?

Do you remember when the NY Times (iirc) write called him overrated and said he would get exposed in the upcoming exhibition game against a college team (Div ii or iii but whatevs)?
His team was expected to lose but he went and torched them for either 54 or 57.. crushed it when he was challenged.
Ouch!!!!! You guys won the game, but I think he won that little interchange in the elevator!!!!
I'd be happy with that every single year.
It's a pity Pitino isn't more likable. I could totally see Al Pacino playing him in a movie.
<<<< After the loss to UK, scene in the elevator >>>>
Michael Douglas: (looking straight ahead) "Nice try coach."
Al Pacino: (also looking straight ahead) "Call me Rick".
Michael Douglas: (punches side of elevator) "You little *******"
Al Pacino: (as he walks away) "You may have won the battle, but I'm gonna win the WAR".
<<<< Story proceeds on how Pitino used that as the motivation to coach harder than ever >>>>
<<<< Flash Forward TV clips of how he led a team of mis-fits and scraps (Louisville) winning the '13 Chips >>>>
<<<< And TV clips of UK losing to Robert Morris >>>>>
Al Pacino, trophy n hand, is asked by a cub reporter about the elevator incident and if he's seen PKM since that momentous encounter.
With a wry smile, Pacino reprises his famous line, saying, "No, I haven't, but If you see him, say hello to my little friend."
