Just cause news is slow right now and I find myself pondering these kinds of things.

I personally want to see an assist from him on his first possession, or stat.

Just discuss about this and what you expect or want to see from Burke.

PnR...so likely assist to a big man.

I feel like seeing him give an assist first shows he's going to be a team player. I don't exactly know where I'm going with this, I just find it interesting.

Assists will come as defenders start to respect your 3pt shot....

Assists will come as you set up your team mates effectively for easy baskets. Stockton was not known as a hyper-lethal 3-pt threat before he was known as one of the top assist men in the league.

I already know he can score, just like Lucas can. I want to know if he can pass the ball in the NBA, because the team doesn't need another shooting guard, that's what Mo was.

I want to see him get into the paint either to score or pass. We need a guard who is a serious threat to breakdown the D.

I like what I'm hearing, do you think he could be a great leader even if he can't become an all-star?

Stat predictions for me are 12 pts 5 assists. I would be pretty thrilled if he got those numbers, I'm just excited to see him work his stuff.

I was thinking today as well if there was a stat for final plays that he made. If a game was close did he just go for his shot to win/tie.

Do we think he could some day average 14 pts, 5 assts and 1-2 steals? If so those are Dennis Johnson level numbers. I think that would be reasonable. If he could develop some defense beyond the steals to go along with that and and a floor-presence to lead the team that would be great, and I think a good estimate of where he might end up. If that is viewed as his floor, and he hits that, it would be a plus for us. If that is viewed as his ceiling and he hits it, it will still be a good thing. IMO we don't need him to be the most dominant presence on the floor for us the way D Will was and tried to be.

Will it be enough to get us to championship-level play. Not sure.

Is he passing through the hoop? This is stupid, assists come from passing. They come from having good court vision, being unselfish, decisive, and building trust/learning the tendencies of one's team--as well as the opposing defenses.

And yes, I understand you are talking about the 3 creating floor space for him to observe and run the offense, but I disagree that should be his path. Plenty of PG's rack up assists, but can't shoot for **** beyond the arc: Rondo, Rubio, MCW, Vasquez, etc.

Burke shot 38& from 3 last yea and 34% the year before. While those percentages aren't horrible, they are not elite, especially for college range . He's not even best on the team. Hayward, Rush, Clark, and Richard Jefferson (in years prior to last year where he gave up and played 10 mpg) all shoot better 3% than that at the NBA level. Scott Machado shot 40% from downtown as a college senior. John Lucas shot 37% from deep last year. Burks shot 36%. Burke isn't, and likely won't be a sniper from 3 in the NBA. Yeah, he made a couple long-ranged, big time shots at Michigan, but that's not his calling anymore. He needs to run the ****ing offense and be a point guard.

This, a hundred times.

I mean, don't get me wrong. A good PG needs to shoot better than Tinsely, and Watson, but we don't need Burke pretending he's AI out there.

There are a lot of good scoring PG's, but how many are truly great at running their teams? I would much rather see Burke striving for 12 assists a night instead of 20 pts. (don't worry, those aren't statistical expectations, just a hope for his mindset).

What I meant was it would be great to see him sinking the NBA 3's, meaning he'll be alright in that department. I'm confident he can pass and run the offense, it's creating his own offense against NBA players that I was worried about (against longer and more athletic NBA players), hence I wanted to see him sink those 3's early and often.

Any other questions/worries?

I think i'd like to see him hassling the hell out of a top pg, get a fat one v. one steal and finish on the other end. I want a pesky team. That often starts with the pg.
