Doner kebabs in Utah?

Yeah. I really feel sorry for you dal. I hope you find happiness that isn't tied into how random strangers view you in an online forum some day, so you can be yourself and stop trying to be the sad gangster wanna-be that is trying so so hard to be cool. You don't need to be "cool" man, just be yourself. Stop emulating and be original. You can find true happiness when you allow yourself to face your fears instead of burying them in ridiculing random strangers. Peace bro.

So how is doner kebab supposed to be pronounced? I know the german pronunciation, and the lazy american pronunciation (donner kuh-bob). What is the actual pronunciation?

most americans say "dough-ner kabab"

"dew-nair" is a little closer to how you pronounce it correctly.

I can't pronounce the ö good enough to fool the Germans into thinking I'm native though.

The French "de" (e as in early)

ner (e as in fair pronounced by a Yorkshirian)

que?

bob

that's it.

You guys make me feel good as a Turk but you must try the Alexander Doner whenever you have the chance.

Widely sliced meat leafs lying on a bed of muffin breads both showered with delicious melt butter and hot tomato sauce as an option on top and more melt butter served with yogurt, cooked tomatoes and green pepper and also may be served with pilaf.

I'm walking over to Mickey's now to pick up my dinner!!!

HOORAY!!! I'll post pics if I'm not so hungry I eat it all first!

I'm sorry for you guys. You will never eat the most tasty Döner in the world. I've been in many places and I haven't eaten better Döner. This is the place "Lezzet" in Saathane, Samsun, Turkey. .Their döner sells out so quickly that, if you don't reserve for lunch, you would be dissapointed. They usually close the restaurant around 15:00

I'd love to go to Turkey someday, but I doubt I will make it to Samsun. Although it looks like it could be nice. You are right on the water according to the map.

You guys are making me really hungry. Those last two look really good.

I hope I make it to Turkey before I die.

After being endorsed on this thread I visited Spitz yesterday. Went for lunch, the line was so long it was out of the door. Waited for 5 mins without any movement and said "**** it", I am not waiting half an hour just to be able to order a doner and then wait another 15 mins to be done. Came in the evening and the place had much less trafic. So, really it is not an ethnic place. Its a fusion-doner. They serve high end beer plus whiskeys, plus coctails and has an ultra-modern interior. Thats fine with me. I ordered their most popular doner, the "Street doner" on a thin pita, made of lamb/beef with regular french fries. The thing is good, but its definetely not your ordinary turkish doner. The meat of mine tasted exactly like Gyro. It looked the same too. And anyone who knows doners, would know that it is NOT gyro... This said, it was really good, will definetely go there again. The fries were amazing, the aeoli or whatever high end garlic fry sauce they have was very very good.

I didn't know shawarma and doner are the same thing. If you want good shawarmas in SLC, try O'Falafel's beef shawarma. Its really good and very close to what i've had in Israel. The owner is from Egypt, so you get the Egyption version... Mazza of course until Ali jacked up the prices. Haven't been there in years. Back in the country I come from the best doners were made by Syrians. Chicken and beef... I drool just thinking about them. The ones I've had in Germany were also amazing, as everyone on this thread that has had them confirms...

One of the best Doners and generally middle easter food i've had here in the states has been Amir's Falafel in LA. In a strip mall, obscure, it has the best doners I've had on this side of the pond....

I truly despise it every time this thread is bumped. Makes me crave Döners sooooooo bad ughhhhh
