The good thing about that is that Favors' contract will be up by the time that rookie's contract is up.
I agree with your points though
We HAVE to save the 5 year max for Kanter or our 14' pick.

Furthermore, if Hayward is worth that kind of money, what is the practical downside to having him ****ING EARN IT ON THE COURT? He hasn't, maybe he will/would, but he hasn't. You negotiate an early deal when they've obviously earned it or when you think you're getting a discount. If you own agency rights and think a player is worth the max, THEN YOU HOLD OUT AND IF YOU HAVE TO MATCH A DEAL WITH SMALLER RAISES THEN YOU ACTUALLY SAVE MONEY by holding out.
Good point. Rep'd.
To all the people comparing a rumored 5-year extension to the AK deal: Remember that AK actually looked like a player that was a potential perennial all-star and made the all-star team the season before he got that deal.
Our own Tatermoog ran around here for months demanding that we "pay AK!"
Hayward isn't particularly close to even that level of achievement yet. To the extent that he or his camp are using Paul George as a baseline for anything, they need to realize that there is virtually no evidence that Hayward is going to put up Paul George like numbers and it is highly debatable whether Paul George is a max-level player either.
If you feel as most on this board that Favors contract is justified by his defense alone, George's is as well. George has more size than Favors(not bulk) and he's a top10 defender in the league already.
Nick Batum...although he performed roughly on Hayward's level and ended up getting $11mm per (iirc could have been locked up for ~$10mm per in an extension). Maybe Dennis Lindsay's a complete ****ing moron. He hasn't made a single move that was even close to being a slam dunk.Do teams not realize that restricted free agency is a thing and acts to dramatically lower prices on players?
I hope you mean for his position and not overall size. And even for his position alone I'm not so certain.

Not trading Millsap/Jefferson
Letting those guys go for nothing
The GS trade (which some really didn't like)
The Favors extension
Gordo's extension (if these rumors are accurate)
Are Favors/Hayward represented by Lebron's agent? Could we be putting in early work to get a big name free agent next summer? What the ****?
Maybe I become a full-fledged hockey fan this season. The Sharks are looking really good.
By acquiring a couple late first round picks from Golden State and overpaying for role players? What else has he done? You're a tard!Lindsey is mostly doing phenomenal work when you think big picture championship.
It's well documented that George has grown several inches sionce being drafted like Durant. George is at least 6'10 in shoes. Same as Durant is at least 6'11. He's at least taller than Howard who's 6'11 in shoes.
Yeah I remember the same thing being said about Kirilenko. And Garnett. And Olajuwon. Players always seem to grow when they come to the NBA and the after they retire they tend to shrink. Like Barkley and like Olajuwon. If Paul George and Durant have grown why assume Favs hasn't and neither has Howard?
