What's new

Hayward=AK47

Disagree. Hay is better handling the ball, better play maker. And being a better shooter is a rather significant thing.

The only place Hayward is a better shooter is on spot ups behind the arc. AK was/is a better shooter everywhere else, with a crazy high for a wing career 2% of .510. AK was an elite efficient scorer in spite of his subpar 3 point shooting: career TS% .573, with one year hitting the league top ten.

Hayward also has a respectable TS% when set up by others and because of his solid spot up 3%. When he has to carry the load, like this season, his shooting efficiency drops from .564 career to a horrid .446 (Corbin: It's just three games).

Lol why did this thread start comparing Hayward's and AK's basketball skills?

Did any of you even read the original post?

Damn de-railers

Both are role players asking for max money. Fans think they can be #1 options yet they're both best suited as a 3rd or 4th option.

The comparisons are valid.

Get Wiggins and hope that Burke can develop. Wiggins, kanter/Favors, Burke, and Hayward as a role player=best chance for the jazz to win. Heck, i think that even Burks should be considered a better offensive option than Hayward. Burks is a poor mans d wade.

We never should've gotten mad at AK for that contract. What's he supposed to do? Say he's not worth it and take less money?

We should've been mad at the Jazz for offering it to him.

I think it will depend on Hayward's demeanor. Utah fans seem to be more fickle than from other teams, and things like the comments from D Will about someone going on vacation early and hearing that AK was the first person to leave from practice while other players stayed to work on their game just didn't sit right with Jazz fans in general. We want a player that 1) Wants to be here 2) Plays hard 3) Is a solid dude on and off the court. Skimp on any of those areas and you will lose the fan base. AK skimped on all 3 at times, at least from a fickle fan perspective (Freebies = not a family man, complaints about PT and touches = doesn't want to be here, making vacation plans during playoffs = doesn't play hard).

As long as Hayward puts forth the effort and shows some level of loyalty he will have a better career here than AK did. His skillset is not what AKs was, but it is easily good enough to get his jersey retired in Utah if he takes care of those 3 things.

I can see Hayward's Jazz career following AK's almost identically. Think about it:

-Both players were highly loved as they played second fiddle to veteran players

-Both players have well rounded games

-Fans starting believing they could be the #1 option on the team

-AK had a max contract and potentially so could Hayward...or close to it

-Both love to play video games.....probably too much

-Both players toughness and leadership are questioned

-AK ended up being despised by the fans and run out of town

-Hayward is on his way to the same demise

Is there any hope for Hayward? Can us Jazz fans just accept and appreciate him for the player he is?

I know it is still early in the season, but I think the play from Hayward so far illustrates why he is worth 10 million per at the absolute maximum. I would feel much more comfortable with 8-9 per. He just isn't a 1st option. He's not a 2nd option either. He is potentially a 3rd or 4th option on a title contending team. No way should we invest the kind of money in him that he and his agent are looking for. I am on board with trading him right now if the right offer came up.

The jazz didn't just offer him the max out of nowhere. Become informed man. There were articles after articles written about these negotiations.

The jazz offered him a nice contract in the $50-60 million dollar range. After Gasol's signing, all AK47 did was demand the max. He strong armed the Jazz. They either had to sign to the max the only recognizable face in the post Stock/Malone era or let him go and go forward into the future with... Matt Harpring? Carlos Arroyo? As the face of the franchise.

The Jazz were victimized. Even moreso after AK quit on himself and the team. He has even admitted that he didn't work as hard as he should have. I have no sympathy for that. I have no sympathy for anyone making vacation plans and working on visas while battling in the WCF.

If Hayward thinks he can get more money than the the jazz have offered him, then please, get the hell out. With the new CBA, fewer teams are going to be offering role players max deals. And if there are any who will pay Hayward Paul George like money, then have at it. Let them be the fools. They'll be regretting it in less than 2 years.

The Jazz were by no means forced to sign him to a max. It was a business decision, and they paid him too much. If I was AK, I would've asked for the max too. Not his fault we were stupid enough to give it to him.

You obviously didn't even read the previous post.

I'm not saying the Jazz were forced to do anything, but if the Jazz knew that Boozer, Okur and Deron would be on the team in two years, there is no way AK gets that deal.

I hated AK on our team. He didn't know how to function without being the number one option. He couldn't shoot, his post up game existed of him going into the lane and throwing both arms up in the air. Too thin to play power forward and couldn't shoot well enough to play small forward.

AK's a whatif.
What if AK was still the main man?
What if AK was the second fiddle to DWill and not Boozer? (or Boozer did not sign up with the Jazz?)
What if AK did not got injured so much?
What if AK had actually worked on his game during the off-seasons?
What if AK had actually worked out during the off-seasons?
What if AK had worked 1/2 hr more per day on shooting and 1/2 hr. less reading Russian novels?
What if AK had cared a little more about the playoffs and a little less about vacation/visa arrangements?

What if Hayward actually hit puberty this year?
What if Hayward traded his scooby doo fruit snack in for a power bar?
What if Hayward never wore a purple back pack to practice during his rookie year?
What if Hayward started playing NBA defense instead of WNBA defense?
What if Hayward became a man??

OMG! This might be the year that Hayward hits puberty!!! Hayward is the first female in the NBA like Bill Clinton was the first black president.

There are a lot of contracts that would have never existed if teams were able to predict 2 years into the future. ;)
