Jazz Pre-Draft Camps and Workouts

This whole Whiteside slide thing reminds me of the 1985 draft when a very raw personality from Louisiana Tech started to slide based on reports of "Character Issues."

Ummm....yeah, I was referring to Karl Malone, maybe you heard of him? He slid hard in the 85 draft. Lots of character issues around him based on not being the smartest bulb in the bunch. Not comparing Malone basketball wise to Whiteside at all, just the "Character issue."

Speaking of not being the smartest bulb in the bunch, what the hell was the Kareem/UCLA reference about?

What do you think it was?

I also want no part of Monroe.

Regarding Xavier Henry - draftexpress list his best case scenario as "James Posey." -- Really? That doesn't sound like it would be worth the 9th pick.

Xavier Henry is a more well-rounded player than James Posey. I'm not really seeing that comparison. His best case is probably a slightly poor man's Ray Allen, since he doesn't have quite the same quickness.

Xavier Henry would be a good choice, but at best, that marginally improves one position. Matthews has shown good range and decent defensive skills. CJ can back him up if Korver or another SG is not signed.
I know the philosophy is to draft BPA. But when players are close, then need becomes the tie-breaker. At #9, there will be bigs or SF's available. Drafting a SG (Henry) means we'd have two starting off-guards on the roster, neither of whom could guard the 3. Draft a SF and CJ can split time between both wing positions. AK's expiring then comes into play at any point in the season since he'd be an extra wing.

Walt Perrin was on ksl last night, he said the jazz have two more upcoming workouts this week. He didn't say who was coming or if anyone was coming back for a second workout.

The reason I don't want Henry at #9 is he doesn't project as a great scorer. I just don't feel like you draft perimeter players in the top-10 with this many bigs unless the perimeter player projects as formidable offensive threat (either as a shot-creator, or as an elite off-the-ball threat [Johnson]).

I don't think he'll last past Houston's pick at 14, and he's probably gone by then. Why would someone pick Udoh, who's basically going to be Udonis Haslem, over a guy who can create a mismatch in the post, block shots and run the floor as well as Whiteside does?

Where is Sene these days?

I don't understand the love for Whiteside here. He is way behind in development compared to the other bigs on the draft board. And would be at least 3 years to have any impact on the team. Its like having Fez. I would rather have Monroe, Udoh, Babbitt, exc. over Whiteside. The only big that I wouldn't want over Whiteside? Aldrich.
