Sources say the Kings are also still open to trade possibilities, and Detroit and Utah are two teams eager to move up in the draft. The Pistons’ Tayshaun Prince could be intriguing to the Kings, who are eager to add a veteran small forward to the roster.

Cousins or Johnson will be available at 5, after that (assuming they are both drafted by then) I think the likelihood of NBA success falls off quite a bit. Rumor has it that Minnesota is sold on Johnson, so this would probably be for Cousins.

While I've been a Cousins hater for the past year, it's abundantly clear that Cousins is the type of player the Jazz need to take a chance on if it comes down to it. Cousins is the biggest gamble of this draft, but if he can be honed, wow. I see some similarities between Cousins and Malone, and Cousins would do well to have the kind of environment Utah would provide (less distractions off-the-court, a no-nonsense yet colorful coach that won't backdown, a culture of hard-work, winning tradition, emphasis on team play, and the best PG in the league).

Anyway, discuss.

P.S. I took some license with my title. I think it lends itself to that.

Cousins would probably go #5. Not sure why Sactown wouldn't want him. The Jazz would have to be willing to give up a player or take a contract (read Noccioni). Detroit is also going to want Cousins pretty badly. I wonder what Golden State thinks about it.

Detroit would offer #7, and the Jazz would offer #9, which would virtually be the same player, assuming the Clippers take George at #8. The Jazz could dangle the Memphis pick, or possibly a player like Koufos. Another team could get involved if the Jazz wanted to unload another player (like AK).

Putting Cousins with Williams would be a good foundation. Keeping Boozer would be cool too.

So here's the scenario. The Jazz send 9 and a decent player to Golden State. Golden State sends 6, a 2nd round pick and the Jazz's Memphis pick to Sactown. Sactown sends 5 and Noccioni to Utah.

Jazz give: 9 (e.g., Aldrich, Davis or Henry), player, Memphis pick
Jazz get: 5 (Cousins) and Noccioni

Warriors give: 6 (e.g., Monroe, Aminu), 2nd round pick
Warriors get: 9 (e.g., Aldrich, Davis, Aminu), a Jazz player

Kings give: 5 (e.g., Cousins) and Noccioni
Kings get: 6 (e.g., Monroe, Aminu, Aldrich), Memphis pick, Warriors 2nd round pick

Something like that might work...

Good deal for the Kings as they get the #6 player that they want, plus a couple of picks.
The Warriors trade 6 for 9, but pick up a player they like from the Jazz.
The Jazz get Cousins, while giving up a player and the Memphis pick to make it work.

What license? Only a damn coward would be "eager" to do sumthin, but not try it. Are ya tryin to say that KOC....uh, OK, I see your point now, I guess.

If Nocioni's just-above-the-MLE deal is the one thing keeping the Jazz from elite talent, they're hopeless. But yes, you're right. The thing I'd be worried about is if the Kings are demanding to unload Udrih as well.

And if I'm the Kings and I love Monroe, it makes more sense to trade down to #7 and grab him there than it does to trade down to #9 with a smaller chance he's still left. The Warriors (#6) are pretty high on Monroe, though, so the decision might swing on what they can read from the Warriors camp.

If KOC trades up to draft Cousins, it will be the first time I will be violently upset at one of his decisions. Please tell me this ain't so...that guy isn't worth the 5th pick in the draft, not to mention the price to move up to get him. It's also speculation at this point though...so we'll see.

Cousins seems a bit like Charles Barkley, both how he plays and how he acts....only he's 5 inches taller. He's a great talent and a big head case too.

If the Jazz can get Cousins, they probably should.

I just don't think Sacramento would be willing to drop from 5 to 9 in this draft unless they get something pretty special back for it. That's why getting Golden State involved might help the Jazz crawl up to the 5th pick, since the player Sacramento wants--Monroe, Aldrich or Aminu--would definitely be there at 6. Otherwise, I think all three of those players could be taken before the Jazz's pick.

If we moved up that far to get the #5, how much more would it take to move up to get Favors? If they fail to land any noteworthy free agents, would the Nets do AK and #5 for the #3? Not so preposterous.

Ak
#9
Memphis Pick
Trade Exception

for

Nocioni
Garcia
#5

Jazz get an SF to replace AK, and an SG to replace Korver off of the bench. Also move up to get Cousins in the draft, and save 6 million in salary next season.

Kings get best player in the trade, a draft pick capable of getting a solid big man, a future pick that could turn out well, a huge expiring contract that will allow them to resign Landry, and have room to play in the 2011 free agent market, and a trade exception that allows them some maneuverability during the season.

Win/Win

I like it but would they do it?

I would do this trade. Jazz finally get the dominating big C they want. But they give up only true SF they have. How would they replace AK? Does Boozer stay? This is not giving up too much to get Cousins though. What about Koufos and Fes?

As much as I would like to see the Jazz FO do something a little risky, I just think that trading up for Cousins is so far outside of the realm of possibility.

KOC is moving up because he fears Babbitt might be gone at #9.

Seriously, I think he's moving up to get Monroe, not Cousins. Monroe would be drafted too high at #5, but if you're sitting at #9 and hear he's going #7 or #8, then you make the deal with whatever team is willing to trade their pick.

It kind of correlates with what we've heard earlier. Monroe's agent has turned down workout requests from everyone below Utah because they allegedly have a promise from Utah that he'll be drafted by the Jazz if he falls to #9.

So if KOC has heard the Kings, Warriors or Pistons would also select Monroe, then he'll probably try dangling the Memphis pick to move up.

I really hope we don't trade up for Monroe. He isn't what we need from a center. We need defense and shot blocking, not another softie.

I think the Jazz should just forfeit their draft pick, that way they could avoid making a mistake by drafting a bad player, or the calamity of moving up or the rediculousness of moving down.

If KOC trades up to draft someone at 5, its going to be Cousins. He's not THAT dumb.

And Cousins is EXACTLY what we need on this team, which is a true enforcer down low. He's got great potential to be the best PF in the NBA, but if he doesn't get there then i'm fine with keeping him as a starting center that kills anyone that tries to come into the paint, which is exactly what we need. Like J-Slo said last year, we need to GET NASTY!

Have you actually watched Cousins play? He's no enforcer...
