If Obama is losing support because other politicians are worried that Obama's policies won't get them re-elected...then maybe Obama should look in the mirror and re-evaluate his policies.

It's what makes America so great.

I'm all for more term limits...politics are funny. We all think they are corrupt and should be voted out of office...except for my guy. He is the one good one. So, incumbents rarely lose because of that mentality.

I am fully in favor as banning career politicians completely and putting a term limit on every position. Most Americans (me included) are too damn lazy to investigate and vote to change things but the senate and house really should have term limits as well as the president.

I am against any form of term limits. I think elections should represent the will of the people.

What if the greatest person in the history of the universe for the U.S. presidency got elected? We should move that person along in 8 years and put in one of these run of the mill jackasses we've had for the last 80 years in the office?

I agree with this, actually. Canadian Prime Ministers don't have fixed term limits. I don't think FDR did a bad job in his 3 (and a bit) terms.

Don't underestimate how stupid people are. Do you really want unbridled power to one person/group? Hilter was continually elected. How did that work out?

Also, how different would FDR be viewed if WWII had never happened? None of his policies brought us out of the depression.

Hell no. Though with the "quality" the two parties send to the White House each year as it is, I guess it doesn't matter since it's like a perpetual suck machine there.

I have said this before that I would like to see us change the president's term to one term of 6 years, which allows him a year to kiss special interest *** who got them elected, which they all do their first 1-2 years anyway, then 4-5 years to actually do something, then 1-2 to campaign for the next guy, which they do anyway. I always felt like at least 3 years, and sometimes more, of a 2-term president's time in the office are wasted due to worrying about getting re-elected and campaigning, both for himself and others in his party, when he should spend the entire time working to better the country. It is like we hire the guy to do a job for 4 years but we are perfectly fine with him spending 2 of those years interviewing for the next job instead of doing the job we hired him to do.

Right, because every country that elects leaders w/o term limits has quickly spun into a dictatorship.

Lol

Would you adjust the Senate and House terms at all under that scenario?

Yeah. Ppl who bitch about term limits most likely just voted district gerrymandering which creates the entrenchment problem they are against.

The presidency would be the hardest position to monopolize for too long.

That's why there should be term limits. People talk a big game, but at the end of the day, it isn't thier politician that is doing things wrong, it's everyone elses.

I would leave the length of their terms alone, but would like to see them limited to 2 or maybe 3 terms. You watch so many of the old dudes in Washington that get to a point of entitlement and inefficacy in tackling the real problems that is just sickening. In my opinion that is one reason our economy and everything just spiraled out of control. The good ol' boys club has so many lifetime members that they just don't care or can't get anything done, or have lost sight of what really needs to be done. They are so insulated from real people and their problems that they cannot make sound decisions. But, as has been stated, incumbents are very hard to unseat, so as long as the old-timers can talk the rhetoric they keep the vote, and the same ol' same ol' flushes the country down the toilet.

Would term limits make lobbyists stronger or weaker? Would it get too expensive for insurance companies and drug companies and wall street thugs to buy off a new group of politicians every 4-6 years?

That's only true if you buy into the two party system. Term limits won't do anything to change the structural problems that gerrymandering establishes.

It's never good to regulate votes out of the people's hands and in to the establishment's. that's what gerrymandering has done.

If you live in Utah I really hope you signed the petition to get the initiative on the ballot that would have taken the redistricting process out of the hands of our legislators. If you do live in Utah and you didn't sign it then stfu. There is nothing worse imo than people who bitch and never act.

Activism is cute, but it's not effective. You can't expect to change engrained world views with fliers.

Shame me some more?

Cute it was backed by a former governor and former and present mayors across the state. You're an idiot if you think you can change anything by bitching on this internet forum. Like I said do something or stfu.

PS There are ballot initiatives that make it every year that use this process. It's uninformed, nihilistic, know it alls like yourself that keep rational measures off the ballot. It isn't enough to be clever, you have to do the leg work too.

The two-party system is a swirling toilet bowl. The issues will escalate until it all goes down the drain.

I think term limits are a good thing. Too bad they aren't in place in Congress.

A lot of conservatives would disagree(shocking, I know). I think he faced some big challenges in his Presidency. I don't think he is the great President that many see him as. JMO.
