I think there used to be a "what are you reading" thread but I can't find it. Ohj well. New year: new threads.

I finished The Goldfinch a few days ago and loved it. It's definitely a little too long at parts, but the book is exciting and well-written enough that it'll make you a kid again, staying up all night reading. https://www.amazon.com/The-Goldfinch-Donna-Tartt/dp/0316055433/ref=pd_sim_b_1

I'm starting The Luminaries now. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0...pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200382&pf_rd_i=507846 Sounds pretty dope. After that I'm probably going to read The Flamethrowers, by Rachel Kushner.

Although I still need to finish Doctor Sleep by Stephen King. The first little bit of Doctor Sleep was really good, but now it's shifted into a standard B-movie thriller type thing. I haven't been able to get back into it.
 
Currently reading "Young Werther's Sufferings" by Goethe. Heard some people suicided after reading the book. Got me interested. I will let you know if I decide to suicide.
 
Reading 'Darkness at Noon' currently. Kinda meh so far tbh. Not even 80 pages in yet doe. I'm sure it gets better cuz it's regarded as a literary classic

Currently reading The Red Wolf Conspiracy. It's been hard to get addicted to but the story isn't too bad so far.


I'm on book 3 of The Morganville Vampires series. It's been surprisingly good for a teen book.


Also on the shelf is the final book of the Mercy Thompson series. It was a good series outside the last one, which took on more of the sitcom route rather than expanding the story.
 
I'm reading Never Go Back..... a Jack Reacher novel.

Next on my list is dr sleep

Damn, I hate to hear that. I love King but I felt that way about Dreamcatcher, and that is one of the only books of his that I actually never finished because it went from one of the best reads ever to the ****tiest **** that ever **** in about 200 pages. Bummer.

I'm a huge King fan too. Reading the 800 page version if the Stand in one furious sitting is one of my fondest reading memories. And King's last book, about a time-traveler who reverses the JFK assassination, is one of his best books. Dude's almost 70 and still churning out quality work.


You might like Doctor Sleep more. It seems like a lot of people really like it. The first half of the novel is about Danny and his mother after escaping the Overlook hotel in the Shinning. Without spoiling anything, Danny's supernatural ability+his father trying to kill him, leading him to alcoholism and eventually to recovery, is much more interesting than the villains who show up later in the novel. The thing about King is, as you pointed out with Dreamcatcher, he's actually a really talented writer with an eye for people. Most horror writers don't have the literary ability he has. And yet his books often devolve into B-movies, stuff you would see on Fear.net or something. And it's frustrating because we know he's better than that.
 
**** it, I started Dr. Sleep tonight. You're right though about that JFK book: it's fan ****ing tastic.
 
Also of note, I reread The Talisman and then Black House over Christmas and I must say, those two books are bad *** as well. I love it when a story that rocks on its own can all of a sudden tie into The Dark Tower and become amazing. Same thing with Nsomnia; if you haven't read that, you're doing yourself a big disservice.

Pads until she almost got her bewbs touched. That's when I switched to them butt plugs.


In my defense, *******, I commute at least two hours per day and work on the road a bit. Many books I "read" are on tape, which gets expensive ($15 each). I'm limited to the free public supply, or listening to a.m. Radio which makes me want to pound screwdrivers into my ears. I'd rather listen to Twighlight than Collin Cowherd or Glenn Beck.

I have read almost every book by SK and my favorite of all of them is "Cell"
A movie for cell is suppossed to come out this year!
 
currently enjoying reading "The Boys in the Boat" by Daniel James Brown, about the University of Washington rowing team that won the gold in 8-man crew in the 1936 Berlin Olympics

Seabiscuit was great. Another book by the same author that I really enjoyed is "Unbroken"

I like to read 4 books at a time always. Switch every 30 pages or so. keep things fresh. My mind seems to like that better than just plowing straight through 1 book. I'm reading currently:
