What's new

14th Tank Platoon

2013 draft: "This sucks, we are going to get Schroeder and have no chance at Burke." Ends up getting Burke.

2014 draft: "We gunna get Parker or Wiggins or Both for sure!" Gets Levine or Vonleh.

*Sigh*

Mixed night for the tank.

Jazz lost and Sactown, Philly and Boston won. Magic and Bucks lost. Cavs are down 1

I will take it...... it could be worse! (The 2014 season slogan)

Good night for the tank. More positive than negative. Especially with Denver knocking off Golden State. Curry still logging way too many minutes. That team is a significant injury from the lottery. They seem very feast or famine. Glad to see them come back down to earth again.

Hope the new trades effect chemistry or something. Heard a stat that the GSW have the worst bench in the league at 22 ppg. Which is pretty remarkable with their record.

Update!

Jazz are looking to me like they will get the 10th pick or right around there :-(

Long ago i said goodbye to wiggins and jabari. Then i waved goodbye to embiid, randle and exum. Recently i said audios to smart, and gordon.

At this point im hoping for vonleh i guess.

Time to start watching indiana hoosier games.

Or the dude from ucla (lavine?)

its depressing.

But at the jazz are in fact fun to watch play

I wouldn't touch Vonleh before 8 or 9 after seeing him play a couple days ago against Wisconsin. For his skillset it would be best for him to stay in college probably as he really needs playing time and I don't know teams in the 8-10 range can give him that. Then he will have to figure out which inside position he's best suited for. He's probably low risk high reward if taken 8 or later as I don't see too many big time players in that segment. Young, WCS and Walker are similar but yet more developed players who could be in his neighborhood in the draft. I can't get a hold of Wayne Selden's potential. Sometimes he looks like he's going to be one of these players who can shoot it and draw numerous fouls in the league with crafty drives, sometimes he's completely off.
But I don't think the way the league looks right now that the Jazz can drop below 5. I don't see them catching up Milwaukee. Orlando would need half a miracle - First get healthy and then get a win streak with a team that lacks defense on many positions.
Boston with Rondo back will need some time to adjust and after that it's wide open how much he can impact a team of mediocre guys or if mediocrity impacts him. So they are somewhere between competing with Orlando for 2nd worst and making a late playoff push simply because of Rondo(I know you'll love reading this PKM).
Philly is tricky. They still have reasons to trade players and Nerlens Noel returning is hard to predict what impact he has on their roster. And will they return draftpicks or good talented players yearning for a bigger opportunity? They can be 3rd last competing with the worst case scenario Celtics or they can stay in the middle if they don't get their talented players moved.
The Lakers are similar to the Celtics. What impact does Kobe have? And can Gasol finally play like he ever was an allstar? Big range between 2nd/3rd last and coming close to making the playoffs.
I see neither the Pelicans nor the Kings down in the Jazz region. Pelicans have no incentive to tank and even if they did they couldn't make sure by grabbing a bottom 2 seed that they can keep their top5 protected pick. Kings are making moves and they're more successful since. They'll win games occasionally.
Cleveland I see going to the playoffs with Deng in and Bynum out. I don't like them too much but I like Deng.

My bottom 6 right now are
1 Milwaukee
2 Orlando
3 Boston
4 Philly
5 Jazz
6 Lakers

Let`s not hope about the GSW-pick, they`re just too good. It looks like the own pick will be somewehere between 6-10. The final situation of which teams will tank hard, we will se after the trade deadline.

Yea I am concerned about the Lakers especially with the injuries to Kobe, Gasol and Nash. Will they continue to keep them out when they realize they are too far out of the playoff picture. Really I still think it is too early to guess which teams will be in full tank mode until after the all-star break. The best thing that could happen to the Jazz is for both conference to have small margins between teams (meaning more teams are in legitimate contention to make the playoffs). Teams will try harder if they are still in the playoff picture. I don't see the big market teams trying to tank as much due to the fact they can get players through FA. I think the Celtics will start winning more once Rondo comes back healthy, Sixers are playing better now that MCW is back, Kings have improved and are probable tired of being in the lottery.

Factors that affect the tank are 1) Does your team suck? 2) Injuries 3) Trades 4) No chance to make playoffs 5) Schedule (road games/playoff teams) 6) Does your team improve over the season 7) Mental attitude - does the franchise want to win or are they OK with making the lottery.

I think the Bucks are just bad and are going to get the number one ranking. Orlando has some talent and I think they have under acheived but they are young and OK with the tank. Cavs could be a contender especially if Irving goes down again. Celtics and Lakers don't have it in their DNA. Both have injured player(s). Problem with the Jazz are they have talent, they are improving and the organization doesn't really have tanking in their DNA. I still think the Jazz will get a top 5 pick due to inexperience and injuries.

I am still hopeful regarding the GS pick. They padded their record going back East. This trade may or may not help them and they are still a major injury away from dropping out of the competitive Western Conference. Kings, T-Wolves, Memphis and even Dallas are playing better now. It would be surprising if GS doesn't make the playoffs but I still don't think it is a certainty they do. I know a week ago it looked better but there is still a lot of basketball to be played.

Guys I just listened to DJ & PK and Locke was on the air. They were talking about some jiber jaber at first but than at the 12:20 DJ asked Locke about Hayward and how hurt he is. Locke took a couple of seconds and than said "no comment". It could be because I'm a foreigner and my english is not perfect but I was like  does he meant what I think?!?! And than at the end DJ was like "when you said no comment I thought you were meaning he is healthy and they are tanking" and Locke is all no I actually meant no instead of no comment.

I'm sure I left some important stuff out but it was pretty obvious to me. Anyway here is the link.

Just listened to it, and I think Locke really did mean "I don't know", and didn't realize how "No comment" would sound until after it came out of his mouth.

By the way--you do have quite nice English, so congrats for that. I didn't know you weren't a native speaker. Are you from Frankfurt, then?

Not really but it's 30 miutes away from Frankfurt, so I just say Frankfurt. And about that Locke thing I don't know man it was kind of "ok let's not say something that could get me in trouble on air" but he did it anyway. But you're probably right and I'm just reading to much into it.

There's hope for the tank. Just read this on CSNBayArea.com. It's well down the page as the main article is about how Barry Bonds lost his PED scumbag crown to A-Rod.

Anyway, here is the relevant part about strength of schedule:
First the part about the Warriors:
"All the enthusiasm over the Warriors as the Next Big Thing runs into at least one hiccup: They have the fifth-toughest remaining schedule according to analyst Ed Kupfer, which seems odd given that they have 18 more games against the Eastern Conference."

And regarding the EC teams:
"One other thing: Kupfer’s chart shows that the 15 Eastern Conference teams have the easiest through 15th easiest schedules . . . BECAUSE THEY PLAY AGAINST THEMSELVES."

https://www.csnbayarea.com/giants/barry-bonds-loses-his-crown

So perhaps no hope of finishing behind Milwaukee, but perhaps a shot at still getting a top-5 pick. Let's just hope the Lakers start playing with a little pride. On the positive side that duo of Gay/Cousins seems to be getting along like a close-knit family from the Ozarks.

With a name like "Primetime," I figured he was some kind of hot dog. Come to find out he's more of a Frankfurter. Da-dum, da-dum! :p
